Keith Lee is known for his honest restaurant reviews. Through his reviews, he's helped many food establishments get the business they deserve, and others to recognize necessary changes.
Lee, who traveled from his hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada to Atlanta, Georgia recently, decided to stop at some well-known local spots. One of those spots included "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Kandi Burruss' restaurant, Old Lady Gang.
Keith Lee Reviewed Kandi Burruss' Old Lady Gang Restaurant In Viral TikTok
This review is unlike any other that Lee has done. He has a system in place so that he doesn't get any special treatment, but things didn't work out exactly as planned this time around.
While at a music festival with his family, Lee was approached by someone who works with Burruss who told him that they've been trying to reach him since he's arrived in Atlanta.
"He said he'd been constantly emailing me and constantly DM'ing me to come to Old Lady Gang," he said in his video. "I got it, let's try it and rate it one to 10."
That's when things took an unusual turn. Lee was on camera with no food. He then continued to explain why he's without food from the establishment.
"Me and my family showed up and we attempted to order before we got here. We called the number they had connected on Yelp three times. No answer," he said. "We tried to order through DoorDash, and it said it was temporarily closed."
When the family pulled up to the restaurant, Lee sent them in to order while he stayed in the car. They were told that on the weekends, they don't do any takeout. Lee then decided to send his family in to eat and have them bring the food out to him in the car, so they have no idea that he's doing a review.
"My family asked how long the wait was to be seated. They said an hour to an hour and a half. She also said they didn't have any reservations available, so they didn't take down any number, any contact information, nothing," he continued. "My family then came and relayed that message to me, and I decided to go in myself."
Keith Lee Decided To Just Go Into The Restaurant Himself
As Lee walked into the restaurant, he was greeted by a "nice young lady." He then met some fans who were dining, and he took some pictures with them. As soon as they were done taking photos, the lady told him his table was ready.
"As always, I don't want any special treatment. I wanna be treated like everybody else," he said. "I pay for my food like everybody else. I'm a normal person. I'm a normal customer. Things like this is exactly why I do reviews the way I do."
He then asked how long the wait time has been today and he was told an hour to an hour and a half. He then asked how they were able to seat him in five minutes. She responded that they are getting their table set up right now, and that "now it's whoever first come first serve."
"Again, my family just attempted to eat there less than two minutes ago. I then told her I changed my mind, was gonna go eat somewhere else," he said. "And I said, 'God bless you' and I walked out."
Lee then explained that he's frustrated over the situation.
"Me and my family just trying to eat food, that's all we're trying to do. At the same time I am frustrated, I understand, we are all humans," he said.
Fans Shared Their Thoughts On The Situation
Lee's review video on TikTok received nearly 5 million views in only 11 hours, and more than 17,000 comments.
"We went to old lady gang two years ago and we are still on the waitlist till this day because they never called us back💀," one person wrote.
Another follower added, "Keith Lee stands on his business, and that’s what we need. Atlanta restaurants do this everyday, but I bet they are paying attention now."
Another fan pointed out, "Personally inviting Keith’s family to dine there but not being ready for it knowing he’s in town is wild."
Redditors also had some things to say about the debacle. A thread about the review had one person asking for clarification.
"I mean they knew he was a good critic so they seated him right away. Isn’t that what most restaurants would do?"
Another Redditor responded, "He’s an honest critic. There’s a difference. He wants to give a honest review of a place. That means everything. From the moment a normal person walks in until the moment they leave. It’s why he has such a big following. He finds people who make good food and have great customer service. Those are the businesses that deserve our patronage the most."
