The actor struggled with addiction for a long time, however, it wasn't until his memoir that he really opened up and let down his walls.
“[I was] at the height of my highest point in ‘Friends’, the highest point in my career, the iconic moment on the iconic show,” the actor when promoting his memoir last year. “When you’re a drug addict, it’s all math. I wasn’t doing it to feel high or to feel good. I certainly wasn’t a partyer; I just wanted to sit on my couch, take five Vicodin, and watch a movie. That was heaven for me. It no longer is.”
Perry said he had been clean for 18 months at the time, stating, "I’ve probably spent $9 million or something trying to get sober."
Fans have been speaking out on Perry's legacy after reading those words back, expressing their respect. "We all lost a friend," one user wrote.
Another said, "Could this beeeeee any more sad? -in my Chandler Bing voice 🥺 “the one where we’re all heartbroken” 😩😩😩."

Meanwhile, Maggie Wheeler, who played Chandler’s on-again, off-again love interest, Janice, on the hit sitcom, broke her silence, stating, “What a loss. The world will miss you Mathew Perry,” Wheeler wrote before adding, “The joy you brought to so many in your too-short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we share. ♥️”
