Pop star Britney Spears has opened up about a lot of famous faces in her memoir "The Woman In Me."
One person that she couldn't resist talking about was when she met "All I Want For Christmas Is You" singer Mariah Carey.
Britney Spears Recalls Mariah Carey's 'Beautiful, Otherworldly Light'
Britney Spears had a major fan girl moment over two decades ago when she ran into Mariah Carey. The two legendary singers first met at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards and have been singing each other's praises ever since.
In an excerpt released by the Daily Mail, Britney wrote, "At an award show I knocked on [Mariah's] dressing room door. She opened it, and out poured the most beautiful, otherworldly light."
"You know how people have ring lights? More than 20 years ago, only Mariah Carey knew about ring lights," she gushed as she sang the diva's praise.
It seems that the feeling is mutual, as the "We Belong Together" singer lent her iconic voice to the #FreeBritney movement months before her 13-year conservatorship ended in November of that year.
Mariah Carey Voices Her Support For The #FreeBritney Movement
Following a public mental health breakdown in 2007, the "Toxic" singer was subject to a stifling 13-year conservatorship that lasted from February 2008 until November 2021.
That year, Mariah voiced her support for the Princess of Pop when spoke to E! News. "I think everybody on this planet deserves to be free," she said at the time. "What they did to [Britney], what I saw, was horrific."
The singer was actually so concerned for Britney that she reached out to the pop star through a mutual friend. "I wanted [Britney] to know, 'Guess what? You're not alone,'" she recalled.
It seems that the tender gesture was duly noted, as Britney has made several mentions of Mariah on Instagram and has even danced to some of her songs. In March 2023, the pop star even confessed to creating a fake music video set to Mariah's hit song "Dreamlover."
"My first pretend video was Dreamlover by Mariah Carey outside with my mom’s heels on while walking through a garden with an umbrella," she wrote at the time, even going as far as to say her fake Dreamlover music video "was the worst thing I have ever seen in my entire life!"

In 2020, the "Oops!... I Did It Again" singer wished Mariah Carey a happy birthday and thanked her for inspiring her love of singing.
"Happy Birthday @MariahCarey !! You are one of the main reasons I started singing ... your Butterfly 🦋 album never gets old even after 20+ years … it’s simply a classic and I will be listening to it today as I work out in the gym !!! Have a wonderful birthday 💕🦋 !!! God bless," she wrote in the caption.
Fans immediately took to the comments to beg the two singers for a collaboration. Although it hasn't happened just yet, fans are still hopeful that the Princess of Pop might make a comeback!
Britney Hopes She Doesn't 'Offend' Anyone With Her Memoir
In a statement posted to social media on Friday, Britney said that she was hoping for a "clean slate" amid the release of her memoir, going on to say that she "quit the business" four years ago.
“My book’s purpose was not to offend anyone by any means !!! That was me then …that is in the past !!!” she began. “I don’t like the headlines I am reading …that’s exactly why I quit the business 4 years ago !!! Most of the book is from 20 years ago … I have moved on and it’s a beautiful clean slate from here !!!”
"I am here to establish it that way for the rest of my entire life !!!” she continued. “Either way, that is the last of it and s— happens !! This is actually a book didn’t know needed to be written … although some might be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future !!!”
“Hopefully I can enlighten people who feel particularly alone in most cases or hurt or misunderstood !!! Again, my motive for this book was not to harp on my past experiences which is what the press is doing and it’s dumb and silly !!!” she concluded. “I have moved on since then !! #TheWomaninMe.”
Britney Spears’ memoir “The Woman In Me” was officially released on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
