Cher recently let her fans know exactly where she stands in regards to Britney Spears’ conservatorship during a recent interview with Extra. The 77-year-old singer said that she doesn’t “think it was right” what her father, Jamie Spears, did to the Princess of Pop following her public mental health breakdown in 2007.

“I don’t think it was right what her father did because it seemed to serve him, no matter the help she needed and needs. I hear things, but no matter what, you love your children and sometimes you have to step in,” she said, adding, “I didn’t like it, so I wanted to let her know I was watching and I was listening.”

Both Cher and Britney Spears had residencies in Las Vegas at the same time. While the two were in the same city, Cher admitted that she knew that something with Britney was “not right.” She said that others were able to sense it too.

“When we were in Vegas, everybody on the Strip knew. We just didn’t know how deep it was, but we knew something was really not right,” she recalled. “You could tell, everybody would say, ‘She’s medicated,’ but not enough to not be able to work, and when people talk, they multiply things, but I knew there was a certain basis, there was that grain of truth, but it bothered me.”

It was rumored that Britney Spears was about to drop a new song, or maybe even an album, to coincide with the release of “The Woman In Me,” but it appears that might not be happening after all, since Tuesday came and went without any new tunes. However, Cher, who has been making music since 1965, is showing no signs of slowing down.

She was recently spotted at Paris Fashion Week with music executive Alexander “A.E.” Edwards. The two are collaborating on her “Christmas” album, which is now available. “Alexander talked me into singing again, like, when we met, because I was ambivalent and he brought me some songs. Then the whole Christmas album came up,” she recalled.

Although she has declined to do a holiday album in the past, she finally decided that 2023 is her year to release it. “This must be the right time because I was asked forever and starting from Sonny and Cher days,” she said, adding, “It’s a very strange Christmas album. All the tracks are their own little islands. Nothing seems to go together, but when you hear it, it works.”

Alexander even enlisted his close friend Tyga to do a duet with Cher on the single “Drop Top Sleigh Ride,” which Cher hinted might be one of the best on the album. She said, “I love it. It might be my favorite song. It also is like, no one is gonna think of me with that song somehow, and then when T comes on, everybody is like, ‘What is this?’”

While reflecting on some of the greats in the industry, Cher also remembered legend Tina Turner who passed away earlier this year. She recalled how the two had shared a special relationship, explaining, “We had kind of a special relationship because both of us were younger when we were married and both of our husbands were pretty much the boss…”

“The first time she did my show she was with Ike and it was a completely different Tina… Sonny wasn’t the same way, but he was very much the boss,” she recalled. “And she wanted to know how did I leave and I said, ‘I just walked out.’”

Britney Spears' memoir "The Woman In Me" was officially released on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
