Britney Spears Claims She Had 'No Idea' Kevin Federline Had Children When They Dated

Pop star Britney Spears claims that she was "clueless" that Kevin Federline had a child - and another one on the way - when the two started dating in 2004.

The two got married that same year ahead of the launch of his rap career. However, after that fizzled out, Britney welcomed two children with him - Sean Preston, now 18, and Jayden James, now 17 - before the former couple finalized their divorce in 2007, only months before her controversial 13-year conservatorship began in February 2008.

Although there have been accusations that the “Toxic” singer is a homewrecker, in her memoir, “The Woman In Me,” Britney insisted that she was “clueless” that K-Fed had a child, and another one on the way, when their whirlwind romance began in 2004.

“Kevin had a ‘bad boy’ image. Still, I had no idea when we met that he had a toddler, nor that his ex-girlfriend was eight months pregnant with his second baby,” she wrote in her memoir, via Page Six. Kevin’s former fiancée, Shar Jackson, was pregnant with his second child in 2004 when he started dating the pop star.

However, Britney says, “I was clueless” that Shar was pregnant, adding, “I was living in a bubble, and I didn’t have a lot of good, close friends to confide in and get advice from. I had no idea until after we’d been together for a while and someone told me, ‘You know he has a new baby, right?'”

Britney admitted that she didn’t believe the news at first but knew that she eventually had to confront him about him. “‘You have kids?’ I said. ‘You have children? Not only one child but two children?'” she recalled asking him. After that, he came clean about his past relationships.

Before he met the Princess of Pop, Kevin had been engaged to Shar. The two welcomed a daughter they named Kori in 2002. After the former backup dancer started dating Britney, Shar gave birth to their son, Kaleb.

At the time, Shar insisted that she and Kevin had still been together when he began dating Britney on the side. Despite the relationship drama, Shar revealed that she and Kevin are “really good friends.”

Brintney’s conservatorship officially began in February 2008, granting Kevin Federline custody of her two young sons. Looking back at her controversial 13-year conservatorship, which didn’t end until November 2021, the “Womanizer” singer recalled feeling “like a shadow of myself” during that time in her life.

“I became a robot. But not just a robot — a sort of child-robot. I had been so infantilized that I was losing pieces of what made me feel like myself,” she wrote in her memoir in an excerpt published by People magazine a week before the tell-all book’s official release.

“The conservatorship stripped me of my womanhood, made me into a child. I became more of an entity than a person onstage,” she continued. “I had always felt music in my bones and my blood; they stole that from me.”

“This is what’s hard to explain, how quickly I could vacillate between being a little girl and being a teenager and being a woman, because of the way they had robbed me of my freedom,” she continued. “There was no way to behave like an adult, since they wouldn’t treat me like an adult, so I would regress and act like a little girl; but then my adult self would step back in — only my world didn’t allow me to be an adult.”

Britney then hinted at the title of her memoir, writing, “The woman in me was pushed down for a long time. They wanted me to be wild onstage, the way they told me to be, and to be a robot the rest of the time. I felt like I was being deprived of those good secrets of life — those fundamental supposed sins of indulgence and adventure that make us human. They wanted to take away that specialness and keep everything as rote as possible. It was death to my creativity as an artist.”
