Pop star Britney Spears revealed a lot of secrets about her childhood in her memoir, “The Woman In Me,” which was officially released on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

At one point in her memoir, the now 41-year-old pop star reflected on how she slept in the same bed with her older brother, Bryan Spears, 46, until the sixth grade.

In her memoir, “The Woman In Me,” the “Toxic” singer revealed that she used to share a bed with her older brother, Bryan, up until the sixth grade. Her mother, Lynne Spears, eventually put a stop to the practice. In her memoir, she reflected on how she was “extremely close” with her brother growing up and started sharing a room after he was involved in an accident that resulted in him “breaking nearly every bone in his body” (via the Daily Mail).

She described how the incident made them “so much closer” because they “bonded” over her “sincere, genuine recognition of his pain.” In her book, she described how her brother and his friends “had been trying to mow down some tall grass with their four-wheelers. This seemed like a fantastic idea to them because they were idiots. Inevitably, they couldn't see one another through the tall grass and had a head-on collision.”

After Bryan was released from the hospital, Britney reflected on how she didn’t want to “leave his side” so she began “sleeping beside him every night.” Although they started sleeping on separate mattresses, Britney said that she would often “climb into his bed” and “hold him” because she wanted to “bring him comfort.”

“He couldn't sleep in his own bed because he still had the full body cast. So he had a special bed, and they had to set up a little mattress for me at the foot of it. Sometimes, I'd climb into his bed and just hold him,” she wrote. “Even as a very little girl, I knew that - between the accident and how hard our dad was on him - my brother had a difficult life. I wanted to bring him comfort.”

She noted that it went on “for years” until she started middle school in the sixth grade. “Finally, after years of this, my mom told me, ‘Britney, now you’re almost in sixth grade. You need to start sleeping by yourself.’ I said no. I was such a baby. I did not want to sleep by myself. But she insisted, and finally, I had to give in,” Britney wrote.

Although it took her a while to come to terms with having her own room again, Britney said that she began to “enjoy having [her] own space.” However, she “remained extremely close” to her brother, writing, “He loved me. And I loved him so much. I felt the most endearing, protective love. I didn't want him ever to be hurt. I'd seen him suffer too much already.”

Bryan Spears was a co-manger of Britney’s conservatorship before her father, Jamie Spears, took full control of the pop star’s personal and financial affairs. The two were so close that, at one point, it was rumored that Bryan was the only person in Britney’s family who had been invited to her June 2022 wedding to Sam Asghari.

In a social media post, his girlfriend, Amber Lynn Conklin, explained that the couple could not attend because it was the same day as his daughter Lexie’s elementary school graduation ceremony. Bryan shares his 11-year-old child with his ex-wife Graciella Sanchez.

However, in an Instagram post at the time (via The Blast), Britney claimed that she never invited either of them to her wedding. “You were never invited to my wedding so why even respond? You hurt me and you know it,” she wrote on social media later that month.

On August 16, 2023, Sam Asghari filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. A source told Page Six at the time that Bryan had been supporting the singer amid her divorce, with an insider sharing, “He’s been staying over and helping her, alongside a therapist.”

Britney Spears' memoir "The Woman In Me" was officially released on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
