Lupita Nyong'o Expresses Gratitude To Fans For Their 'Kindness' After Sharing Her 'Heartbreak News'

Actress Lupita Nyong'o has expressed gratitude to her fans for the supportive messages they sent her following the announcement of her shocking split from sports reporter Selema Masekela.

The "Black Panther" star noted that "it feels comforting to have a corner" on the internet for the "heartbroken." 

On October 19, Nyong'o revealed she had broken up with Masekela after almost a year of dating. She is now being linked to actor Joshua Jackson, who is currently going through a divorce.

Marvel star Nyong'o recently posted on her Instagram page to express gratitude for fans' kind words after she revealed her breakup with sports reporter Masekela, whom she "no longer trusts."

In the first post on her IG stories, she wrote, "Thank you for all the kindness I have received from sharing my heartbreak news. The words of encouragement mean more to me than I anticipated. They are a balm."

"And it feels comforting to have a little corner online for the romantically heartbroken to gather," Nyong'o added.

The actress noted, "Some of you have shared resources that have helped you move through the pain. Songs, poems, books, quotes... Please continue to do so. I will be sure to share some of what is resonating with me."

As stated, Nyong'o proceeded to share several quotes and notes from her followers that resonated with her during this period of heartbreak.

A particular quote from Ava Duvernay read, "We lift you up with love and sisterhood. Your miracles are all around you. Let us count them in confidence and in faith. XO."

On October 19, Nyong'o shocked her followers after announcing her break up with Masekela. The actress shared a lengthy statement on Instagram detailing how she felt heartbroken and deceived by her ex.

"At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust," Nyong'o began. "I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception."

She added, "I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, 'Whatever, my life is better this way.' But I am reminded that the magnitude of the pain I am feeling is equal to the measure of my capacity for love."

In her heartfelt statement on Instagram, the "US" actress encouraged others going through heartbreak to try not to “escape from the pain” as experiencing it comes with “wisdom.”

Nyong'o wrote, “And so, I am choosing to face the pain, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass. The promise, they say, is that a tender heart is what gives birth to fearlessness.”

She added, “I hope it’s true… I share this to keep it [100] and hoping [sic] that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it."

Nyong'o and Masekela debuted their romance on Instagram last December with an IG reel showing them participating in a viral trend where you change outfits after snapping your fingers.

At the time, the duo's announcement was met with lots of support from fans and celebrities alike.

The two newly single actors sparked gossip on Wednesday after they were spotted together at Janelle Monae's concert. 

Jackson, who is divorcing actress Jodie Turner-Smith, sat next to Nyong'o as they enjoyed the show at YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California.

The duo were dressed casually and reportedly arrived at the venue together, where Nyong'o introduced Jackson to some of her friends.

Although the nature of their relationship isn't clear, insiders revealed to TMZ that they are among a group of 9 to 10 friends and have known each other for years. The insiders also claim that there's nothing romantic between Jackson and Nyong'o.
