Pop star Britney Spears is finally explaining why she likes to share photos of herself on social media without any clothes on.
Although many fans have posed that question to her on Instagram, she finally answered that question in her memoir, "The Woman In Me," which is scheduled for release on Tuesday, October 24.
Britney Speares Admits 'I Love Taking Pictures Of Myself Naked'
In addition to taking photos of herself wearing little, if any, clothing, the 41-year-old pop star also loves to play dress-up and share some fashion-forward photos with her 42.2 million Instagram followers. In addition to her steamy shots, she also posts videos of her dancing and, most recently, videos of her dancing with knives.
In an excerpt from her memoir, "The Woman In Me," released by the New York Times," the "Toxic" singer finally explains why she posts photos of herself in various states of undress on Instagram.
“I know that a lot of people don’t understand why I love taking pictures of myself naked or in new dresses,” she wrote. “But I think if they’d been photographed by other people thousands of times, prodded and posed for other people’s approval, they’d understand that I get a lot of joy from posing the way I feel sexy and taking my own picture.”
Britney's 'Indecent' Photos Have Caused A Strain Between Her Ex-Husband and Two Sons
The Princess of Pop shares two sons - Sean Preston, 18, and Jayden James, 17 - whom she shares with her ex-husband Kevin Federline. The two were married only from 2004 to 2007, but the vicious custody battle leading up to the conservatorship caused a strain between the formal couple that has not faded with time. Last year, her son Jayden spoke to the UK's ITV in the hopes of getting his mother off Instagram.
“It’s like almost as if she has to post something on Instagram to get attention,” Jayden said last year. “This has gone on for years and years and years, and there’s a high chance that this is never going to really stop.” During a separate interview with the same outlet, K-Fed said that he has told Preston and Jayden that her social media behavior is "just another way" that the pop star "tries to express herself," although he admitted that it has been "tough" for the two teenage boys.
“I can’t imagine how it feels to be a teenager, having to go to high school,” he said. “Who knows how many people ask them about it or talk to them about it?”
Britney Spears Fires Back At Her Sons' Comments On Instagram
In September 2022, Jayden said that his mother "struggled" to give her two sons the attention they needed in an interview with the Daily Mail. “I think Mom has struggled giving us both attention and showing us equal love and I don’t think she showed enough to Preston and I feel really bad for that,” Jayden said at the time. “We’ve both been through so much pressure in the past that this is our safe place now, to process all the emotional trauma we’ve been through to heal our mental state.”
In a deleted Instagram post shared via Us Weekly, the "Toxic" singer called out her son for saying that he would “pray” for her. “So Jayden, as you undermine my behavior just like my whole family always has with ‘I hope she gets better, I will pray for her’ — pray for what?” Britney asked at the time. “Do you guys want me to get better so I can continue to give your dad 40k a month? Or is the reason behind you guys deciding to behave fools is because it’s actually over in 2 years and you don’t get anything?”
“You said, ‘Mama, oh, it’ll change,’” Britney continued, lamenting how her sons never seemed to want to spend any time with her. “That one time I looked you straight in the eyes and said ‘I wanna see you more?’ You called your dad and I never saw you again.” The “Toxic” singer claimed that her sons always left “two hours early,” adding, “If I didn’t shower you guys with gifts and have amazing food ready and play a mother f—king saint it was still never good enough.”
Britney admitted, “I know I’m not perfect” but asked her sons to be more understanding. “Jayden, it was a miracle I could even have a normal conversation when I got out of that place, but you were just like my other family,” she wrote at the time. “You secretly loved looking at me like something was wrong with me.”
Britney Spears’ memoir “The Woman In Me” is scheduled for release on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
