On Tuesday, an excerpt of “The Woman In Me” was published by People magazine that revealed the start of Britney’s career on “The Mickey Mouse Club” and her growing relationship with her now-ex Justin Timberlake.

“Being in the show was boot camp for the entertainment industry: extensive dance rehearsals, singing lessons, acting classes, time in the recording studio, and school in between,” she wrote in her memoir, noting that she first appeared on the show in 1993. As Britney explained:

“The Mouseketeers quickly split into our own cliques, divided by the dressing rooms that we shared: Christina Aguilera and I were the younger kids, and we shared a dressing room. We looked up to the older kids–Keri Russell, Ryan Gosling, and Tony Lucca, who I thought was so handsome. And I quickly connected with a boy named Justin Timberlake.”

Behind the scenes of “The Mickey Mouse Club,” the two began their relationship. “[Once] at a sleepover, we played Truth or Dare, and someone dared Justin to kiss me,” she wrote. “A Janet Jackson song was playing in the background as he leaned in and kissed me.”

Although the “Hold Me Closer” singer described working on the show as “unbelievably fun,” she admitted that it was “exceptionally hard work,” with her and her costars expected to practice choreography and routines “thirty times in a day.”

In another excerpt of “The Woman In Me,” released by People magazine on Tuesday, Britney opened up on the unplanned pregnancy that ultimately led to the end of her relationship.

“It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated,” she wrote in her memoir. “But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”

“I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father,” she continued, adding, “To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.”

The “Cry Me A River” singer went on to marry actress Jessica Biel in 2012. The couple shares sons Silas, 8, and Phineas, 3. Meanwhile, Britney, who was married to Kevin Federline from 2004 to 2007, welcomed two sons: Sean Preston, 18, and Jayden James, 17.

Justin Timberlake Shares His Support For Britney During Her Conservatorship

Britney was subjected to a controversial 13-year conservatorship from February 2008 to November 2021. In June 2021, the “Mirrors” crooner took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to support the “Toxic” singer and fight for her right to choose what was best for her own body.

“After what we saw today, we should all be supporting Britney at this time. Regardless of our past, good and bad, and no matter how long ago it was… what’s happening to her is just not right. No woman should ever be restricted from making decisions about her own body,” he wrote on social media at the time.

“No one should EVER be held against their will… or ever have to ask permission to access everything they’ve worked so hard for,” he continued, adding, “Jess and I send our love, and our absolute support to Britney during this time. We hope the courts, and her family make this right and let her live however she wants to live.”

Britney's memoir "The Woman In Me" will be released on October 24, 2023.
