It looks like pop star Britney Spears is finally ready to open up on her passionate tryst with actor Colin Farrell.
Although she famously dated Justin Timberlake from 1999 to 2002, the now 41-year-old pop star rebounded with the actor, who started filming the 2003 action-thriller S.W.A.T.” shortly after they met.
Britney Spears Recalls ‘Passionate’ Fling With Colin Farrell After Justin Timberlake Romance
In an excerpt from “The Woman In Me” obtained by Time magazine, Britney said that she met Colin Farrell in 2002 after being introduced by a “club promoter friend.” She said that she visited the Hollywood star on the “S.W.A.T.” set, which sparked a “two-week brawl” between them.
“Brawl is the only word for it — we were all over each other, grappling so passionately it was like we were in a street fight,” she wrote, admitting that she was still not over the “Cry Me A River” singer when she attended the premiere of Colin’s 2003 film “The Recruit.”
“As I had before when I’d felt too attached to a man, I tried to convince myself in every way that it was not a big deal, that we were just having fun, that in this case, I was vulnerable because I wasn’t over Justin yet,” she wrote.
At the premiere, Farrell had told reporters that the two were “not dating,” adding, “She’s a sweet, sweet girl. There’s nothing going on — just mates.” He reportedly wanted Britney to leave the event “as soon as the paparazzi were gone.”
At the time, Britney had confessed the kiss to W Magazine, saying, “Yes, I kissed him… He’s the cutest, hottest thing in the world — wooh!”
Unfortunately, according to Time, Britney’s memoir “The Woman In Me” does not talk about how her brief fling with Colin Farrell ended. However, she does admit that “for a brief moment in time,” she “did think there could be something there.”
“The disappointments in my romantic life were just one part of how isolated I became,” she wrote, adding, “I felt so awkward all the time.”
Britney Spears Reflects On The End Of Her Relationship With Justin Timberlake
After multiple allegations of infidelity from both parties, the two called it quits in 2002. According to the New York Times, the “Toxic” singer was “devastated” by the end of the relationship, writing, “I was comatose in Louisiana, and he was happily running around Hollywood.”
She also slammed the media for calling her the “harlot who’d broken the heart of America’s golden boy” after it was implied that she inspired his famous “Cry Me A River” music video. In the memoir, she also claims that Justin broke up with her via text message.

This allegation was supported by “Overprotected (The Darkchild Remix)” music video director Chris Applebaum, who previously recalled the incident on April 22, 2022, on Instagram. While talking about the music video, Chris wrote, “It was a (planned) 24 hr shoot day and we had one crew clock out after 12 hrs & a new one clock in. At some point during the 2nd shift, Brit disappeared and I went to her trailer to fetch her…only to discover her BF Justin had just broken up with her via text message. (Let me recommend to any who reads this: don’t break up via text!)”
“We sat on the floor of her trailer for a minute, talked it out, and then rallied. I told her she should get out there & show Justin he made the biggest mistake of his life. That was just one of the stories from this shoot…” he continued, although it's unclear if he knew that Britney and Justin once had to navigate an unplanned pregnancy together.
Justin and Britney Navigated An Unplanned Pregnancy Together
In her memoir, the "Overprotected" singer opened up about the incident. “It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated,” she wrote, as per People magazine.
“But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy,” she continued. “He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father. To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.”
Britney Spears' memoir "The Woman In Me" is scheduled for release on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
