J.K. Rowling shared a shocking post on X about not fearing the consequences if a government passed a law stating that it is a hate crime to label people by the wrong pronouns, and she is not joking!
The prominent "Harry Potter" writer mentioned that she would happily spend time in jail if "the alternative is compelled speech and forced denial of the reality."
J.K. Rowling Says Calling The Right Pronouns Is 'Compelled Speech'
In a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the 58-year-old British philanthropist said that she would gladly spend two years in jail for using the wrong pronouns on a person. She went on to note that forcing people to use the correct pronouns is a form of "compelled speech."
Rowling reacted to a tweet about voting for the U.K. Labour Party that read, "Vote Labour, get a two-year stretch!"
She replied, "I'll happily do two years if the alternative is compelled speech and forced denial of the reality and importance of sex. Bring on the court case, I say. It'll be more fun than I've ever had on a red carpet."

According to the Daily Mail, the Labour Party is making plans to implement stricter punishment on individuals who misgender people in the LGBTQ community.
The stern chastising is aimed at people who intentionally target the community as a form of abuse. Although it is unclear when this new law will take effect or if it will, some celebrities are not comfortable with the report, including Rowling.
Last year, the government noted that misgendering people on purpose for the sole aim of ridicule and hostility is seen as a hate crime. However, Labour's upcoming policy could result in citizens serving a two-year jail term.
J.K. Rowling Says She Would 'Do OK' In Prison Kitchen Duties
In a second tweet, Rowling made it clear to anyone who wants to know that she would be interested in maintaining the prison library, but kitchen duties would not be a bad idea. These tweets, which went viral with over one million impressions, earned several reactions and support from fans.
"See you on the inside. I quite fancy the kitchens," one fan wrote, to which Rolling replied, "hoping for the library, obviously, but I think I could do ok in the kitchens."
Furthermore, she explained why being in charge of prison laundry might be a problem, saying she has "a tendency to shrink stuff/turn it pink accidentally."
In another instance, a fan wrote, "Imagine getting shanked by JK," to which the author replied, "That made me laugh so hard I scared my husband."
While there have been several opinions about the upcoming policy, it is clear that Rowling is not happy about it and wants everyone to know.
Fans Are Split On The Author's Tweet
When celebrities publicly express their opinions on a particular matter, fans can either support or oppose them. Following Rowling's recent tweet, several of her fans agreed with her and commended her for speaking out against the policy.
One fan wrote, "You are a brave and honourable lady." Another commented on the post, saying, "I have recently followed you because of the truth you speak."
A third person noted, "Court case for speaking freely?! What is it with these absurd threats? What has become of Europe, the continent that gave us the Great Enlightenment era and humanitarian philosophies of Rousseau and Voltaire? What have we become? A complete sham. Wake up, Europe!"
While some fans agreed with Rowlings, others straight-up called her out.
One user wrote, "Wonder if you would change your mind if one of your children came to you and said, 'Mum, I think I am in the wrong body...."
Another commenter asked, "Rowling, what happened to you? Were you always this bigoted?"
A third person said, "No one is "compelling" anyone to be a decent human being, your refusal to be kind speaks volumes, and the" forced denial of the reality &importance of sex" is a straw man argument. No one is refuting biological sex. They're just acknowledging that gender and sex are not the same."
