Pop star Britney Spears is sharing new details about her mother, Lynne Spears, in her upcoming memoir, "The Woman In Me."
In an excerpt from her tell-all memoir, the "Toxic" singer revealed that she often sipped cocktails, which they called 'toddies,' while she was only in the eighth grade.
Britney Spears Recalls Drinking Daiquiris With Her Mother As A Child In 'The Woman In Me'
On Tuesday, People magazine published several excerpts of Britney’s life prior to the release of her memoir, “The Woman In Me,” next Tuesday. In one excerpt, Britney revealed that she would drink daiquiris with her mother when she was only in the eighth grade.
“For fun, starting when I was in eighth grade, my mom and I would make the two-hour drive from Kentwood to Biloxi, Mississippi, and while we were there, we would drink daiquiris. We called our cocktails ‘toddies,'” Britney wrote in her memoir.
“I loved that I was able to drink with my mom every now and then,” she said, noting that her mother’s drinking habits were not as terrible as her father’s alleged drinking habits.
“The way we drank was nothing like how my father did it,” Britney wrote. “When he drank, he grew more depressed and shut down. We became happier, more alive, and adventurous.”
Britney Opens Up On The Relationship With Her Father During Her Conservatorship
Britney also has a complicated relationship with her father, Jamie Spears. In another excerpt from “The Woman In Me” published by People magazine, Britney also opens up about her relationship with her father. “If I thought getting criticized about my body in the press was bad, it hurt even more from my own father,” she wrote. “He repeatedly told me I looked fat and that I was going to have to do something about it.”
In another excerpt, she explained why she shaved her head in 2007. “I’d been eyeballed so much growing up, I’d been looked up and down, had people telling me what they thought of my body since I was a teenager. Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back,” she wrote.
However, she lost all control over her appearance after the conservatorship started in February 2008. “But under the conservatorship, I was made to understand that those days were now over. I had to grow my hair out and get back into shape. I had to go to bed early and take whatever medication they told me to take.”
Britney’s conservatorship gave her father control of her financial and personal affairs. A judge did not strike down Britney’s 13-year conservatorship until November 12, 2021. “I think back now on my father and his associates having control over my body and my money for that long, and it makes me feel sick,” Britney wrote, saying that she now feels like “a shadow” of herself given all that she has been through.
Jamie Spears Has No Plans To Read 'The Woman In Me'
Last week, sources told TMZ that Jamie Spears has no plans to read what Britney has to say about him in “The Woman In Me” since he has already read what she had to say about him on social media. In September 2022, she wrote on Instagram that she “prays” that both of her parents “burn in h—.”
Earlier this month, People magazine reported that the 71-year-old entrepreneur is “now in an infectious disease outpatient facility” to treat a bacterial infection and is “on the mend” following yet another health scare that left him spending several weeks in the hospital.
In November 2018, the Spears patriarch suffered another health scare that left him “seriously ill” after his colon “spontaneously ruptured.” He was rushed to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas and spent 28 days recovering in the hospital.
"After a long, complicated post-operative period, he is recuperating at home and gaining strength and is expected to make a full recovery,” read a statement from the family at the time.
“I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family,” Britney added in her own statement. “We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me.” She later delayed her Las Vegas residency, Domination, to “put [her] family first.”
It remains to be seen if Britney will discuss her father's 2018 health scare in "The Woman In Me," which is scheduled for release on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
