It seems that Justin Timberlake is pretty worried about what his ex Britney Spears might have to say about him in her new memoir, "The Woman In Me."
The two dated for only three years, from 1998 to 2002, but many headlines and rumors were born from their short-lived relationship. It seems that the 41-year-old pop star is now ready to tell the truth about how their relationship really ended in her memoir and it's apparently making the "Rock Your Body" singer nervous.
Justin Timberlake Is ‘Concerned’ About What Britney Spears Wrote In Her Memoir!
Britney’s memoir, “The Woman In Me,” is out in just over a week on October 24, which is prompting some of her famous ex-partners to become very nervous about what she will write about them. On Monday, October 16, a source told Page Six that the 42-year-old singer is “concerned” about what the Princess of Pop had to say about him.
“He’s very curious what she’ll reveal from their relationship,” one source told the outlet. “It’s eating at him.” However, they went on to say that “This is Britney finally getting a chance to tell her empowering story and it’s nothing more than that.”
On Wednesday, October 11, a different source told Us Weekly that Justin is “not going to be happy” with what Britney wrote about him, alleging that the “Toxic” singer “goes after him hard.” The insider went on to say that Britney is “excited but nervous” about the release of her memoir, noting that “It’s not Britney’s intention to skewer anyone,” adding, “She’s just going to relay the facts from her perspective.”
Justin Timberlake Would Not ‘Say Specifically Why’ Their Relationship Ended
As Page Six noted, over a decade ago, the “Mirrors” crooner would not “say specifically why” his relationship with the “Gimme More” singer came to an end in an interview with Barbara Walters. When he was pressed to answer allegations that Britney had cheated on him, Justin responded, “Honestly, we’re not perfect,” adding, “I don’t judge anybody.”
When Diane Sawyer asked Britney what she had done to end the relationship the following year, Britney had an equally measured response. “I think everyone has a side of their story to make them feel a certain way … and I’m not technically saying he’s wrong, but I’m not technically saying he’s right either,” she said at the time.
Their breakup is said to have spawned JT’s famous single, “Cry Me A River,” while Britney is rumored to have penned “Everytime” in response. Although the two seemed to have moved on, Justin issued an apology for the way he treated his former flame following the backlash he faced following the release of the 2021 New York Times documentary “Framing Britney Spears.”
Justin Timberlake Apologizes Following 'Framing Britney Spears' Backlash
In February 2021, Justin Timberlake took to Instagram to issue a public apology following the backlash he faced as a result of the 2021 New York Times documentary "Framing Britney Spears."
“I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns and I want to respond,” he wrote at the time. “I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism.”
“I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed,” he continued. “I also feel compelled to respond, in part, because everyone involved deserves better and most importantly, because this is a larger conversation that I wholeheartedly want to be part of and grow from.”
Britney Spears Reportedly 'Does Not Hold A Grudge' Against Justin Timberlake
“The industry is flawed. It sets men, especially white men, up for success. It’s designed this way,” he went on. “As a man in a privileged position I have to be vocal about this. Because of my ignorance, I didn’t recognize it for all that it was while it was happening in my own life but I do not want to ever benefit from others being pulled down again.”
“I have not been perfect in navigating all of this throughout my career. I know this apology is a first step and doesn’t absolve the past. I want to take accountability for my own missteps in all of this as well as be part of a world that uplifts and supports,” he concluded. “I care deeply about the well-being of the people I love and have loved. I can do better and I will do better.”
At the time, a source told Us Weekly that Britney “does not hold a grudge” against her ex, adding, “She feels that they were young and in love and both did stupid things when they were together. She was heartbroken when they separated, but it’s not something she dwells on now.”
