Katie Sigmond Finds Herself Caught Up In Controversy
Last year, the 21-year-old TikTok creator was hit with a $285 fine after hitting a golf ball into the Grand Canyon. She had been charged with three misdemeanors for the stunt, including "tossing items into the Grand Canyon, littering and creating hazardous conditions with disorderly conduct," The Arizona Republic reported.
Videos of the stunt have been removed from social media. However, many users have already reposted the incident. The video shows her hitting a golf ball into the canyon and throwing her golf club off the ledge.
Per the official Grand Canyon social media page, "Do we really need to say, 'don't hit golf balls into the Grand Canyon?' On October 26, an individual posted a video to her personal TikTok page showing her hitting a golf ball and throwing a golf club into the canyon near Mather Point. Members of the public helped identify the individual's social media account."
They added, "On October 27, Grand Canyon Law Enforcement identified, located and contacted the individual responsible for the incident. Charges and a court appearance for the individual are pending."
Katie Sigmond Apologizes For Disrespecting The Grand Canyon
A spokesman for the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts confirmed to The Republic that the Central Violations Bureau, per AZ Central, received two payments of $155 and $130 from Katie Sigmond on November 15.
Sigmond apologized for the video: "I visited the Grand Canyon with my family and friends. I decided to hit a golf ball into it, not knowing how disrespectful it was to the environment. I lose golf balls all the time and honestly wasn't thinking; I wasn't educated and was dumb."
She said, 'I made the wrong decision to do that, and I 100 percent take blame for it."
