Caitlyn Jenner is speaking out about her upcoming tell-all documentary, but her intentions run deeper than sensationalism. The former Olympian turned reality TV star shared the driving force behind the project while keeping it real about her relationship with ex Kris Jenner.
The Reason Behind Caitlyn Jenner's Revealing Documentary
While her absence from the family's latest reality venture raises questions, the 73-year-old's candid explanation sheds light on her unwavering commitment to her loved ones. In an exclusive interview on ITV1's "This Morning," the former college football player sheds light on her decision to participate in a revealing three-part series.
Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Josie Gibson, she revealed that her deep love for her children as a devoted parent and her need to protect them was the heartfelt intention behind getting involved in the project. The TV personality stated:
"I wanted to protect my family. I'm a parent, I love my children… and you know the Kardashian side and a little bit of the Jenner side."
She noted further, "But I think a lot of times in the media you get misrepresented, so I wanted to do it just to say first of all how much I love my kids, and second of all how proud I am of them and what they've been able to accomplish. It is an amazing story."
Although it is unsure how much of a relationship she still has with the Kardashians, Caitlyn clarified that communication with Kris had significantly dwindled, which she found saddening.
As for the rest, after adding that speaking with the 'momager' was done through her manager, she explained that due to having a large number of children, she is "closer to some than you are to others…"
The former co-host of "America Alive!" also divulged, "I certainly see them, and we do this and that. I'm much closer to the Jenner side, but Kris, I don't really have any more contact with her. It's kind of sad because we went through a lot."
As they do not seem to have a great relationship, it would not be surprising if Kris was not on board with the documentary. However, when asked about handling negative media coverage and reports suggesting the above, Caitlyn shrugged it off, stating, "It's part of the game. The media will make up much of the controversy and try to make up a story."
The "Can't Stop the Music" star's ability to ignore the noise was part of what she passed on to her stepdaughter Kim. Speaking with the outlet, she praised the Skims owner for her business acumen and work ethic before disclosing that "Kim wanted to be a celebrity and get into that world."
In support of her ambitions, the "Grambling's White Tiger" star emphasized, "Being in that world is a business, and you have to treat it as a business." Commending her remarkable success since then, Caitlyn highlighted the entrepreneur's achievements, especially Kim's intellectual pursuit of a law degree and her future career as a lawyer.
The 'I Am Cait' Star Absent From New Kardashian Reality Series, But No Hard Feelings
In the lead-up to the premiere of the renowned family's new reality series, it was revealed that their matriarch's second ex-husband would not be a prominent figure. Despite her absence from "The Kardashians," The Blast reported that Caitlyn even extended her best wishes to her family, showing no animosity.
Taking to social media, the "CHiPs" guest star shared a tweet from Variety's cover story featuring the family and their upcoming series. She reflected on being present when "KUWTK" first aired in the quoted reply above the post.
Acknowledging that being a part of the series for nearly 20 seasons was a standout experience, she added, "To be able to work with my family for all those years, connect with the fans, it was incredible. Happy that it continues for my family."
While fans would have been sad to see her go, it is worth noting that Caitlyn held a steady role in the series since its debut in 2007 and occasionally appeared until its conclusion in 2021. Afterward, she also headlined two seasons of the reality show "I Am Cait," chronicling her transition in 2015.
