According to the two-time Billboard Women in Music Award recipient, her music hiatus was a "fun departure" necessary to help reevaluate her goals, especially those applying to her happiness. "I love sad-girl music; I'm good at that," the 31-year-old confessed to Fast Company.

"However, I can't write that if I'm not sad. I've had to relearn what being me and being happy looked like. There is not one sad song on this album," the media personality revealed. Although she declared her next album would be sadness-free, the "Only Murders In The Building" star stressed that her vow did not extend to her private life.

"I've never promised anyone I'll never have a bad day again," Gomez confessed. "I've always been honest with my fans. Even when I take breaks from social media, I'll say I'm taking a break." Gomez is no stranger to prioritizing her mental health with a social media hiatus, yet she remains the most followed woman on Instagram.

However, having over 400M followers on the platform made the "People You Know" singer susceptible to rumors, with so many eyes watching her movements. A recent uproar saw fans speculating about a feud between Gomez and Dua Lipa after the multi-hyphenate star stopped following the "New Rules" hitmaker.

Selena Gomez's New Song, 'Single Soon' Left Fans Begging For More

Two months before declaring that her upcoming album would have zero sad songs, the "Another Cinderella Story" actress sent Selenators into an excited frenzy with her new track, "Single Soon." In August, the Texas native dropped a teaser of the Hot Summer Girls Anthem on her Instagram page.

The brief clip captured Gomez walking into a room with her younger sister, Gracie's voice playing in the background, saying, "I love you, Sissy. Don't ever worry about boyfriends, like AT ALL!" The little girl's advice kick-started the catchy song about embracing singlehood with one's girlfriends.

The lyrics seemed personal given the TV personality's love life from her controversial romance with Justin Bieber and her speculated on-and-off feud with the Canadian singer's wife, Hailey Bieber. The "Who Says" songstress has also been romantically linked to stars like TheWeeknd, Charlie Puth, Zayn Malik, and Drew Taggart from The Chainsmokers.

Part of "Single Soon" lyrics read: "I know I'm a little high maintenance. But I'm worth a try. Might not give a reason why. Oh well. We both had a lot of fun. Time to find another one. Blame it all on feelin' young."
