Although the two have kept up appearances on social media, the British actress and model filed for divorce from the “Fringe” actor, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
Jodie Turner-Smith Files For Divorce From Joshua Jackson
On Monday, fans were shocked to hear that Jodie Turner-Smith filed for divorce from Joshua Jackson. In court documents obtained by The Blast, she listed “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. There is a prenup in place, so division of assets should go relatively smoothly if it isn’t challenged.
The “Anne Boleyn” actress also wants to waive the possibility for either her or the “Dawson’s Creek” alum to get spousal support. Where things might get difficult is when it comes to the custody of their 3-year-old daughter, Janie. Jodie has filed for joint custody and listed September 13 as the date of separation.
The “Murder Mystery 2” actress has secured high-profile divorce lawyer Laura Wasser to represent her in the split. Wasser is also representing Ariana Grande amid her high-profile divorce from Dalton Gomez. It is unclear who Joshua has retained to represent him.
Jodie and Joshua Get Engaged After Meeting At His Birthday Party In 2018
The former couple made headlines for their whirlwind romance. After meeting at his birthday party in 2018, the two became engaged only a few months later. The two had obtained a wedding license from the Beverly Hills Courthouse before most even knew that the two were dating.
There were rumors of trouble between the pair briefly in September 2022 when they unfollowed each other on Instagram. It is still unclear what caused the social media drama, but the two seemed very much in love when they attended the Oscars together in March 2023.
The former couple tied the knot in 2019 and welcomed their first child together in April 2020.
Joshua Jackson Said Jodie Turner-Smith ‘Changed’ His Views On Marriage and Kids
In April 2023, only one month after their Oscars appearance, Joshua Jackson told The Sunday Times that Jodie Turner-Smith had changed his views on marriage and children, and admitted that he had never been keen on the idea before meeting her. The “Fatal Attraction” star had famously been in a decade-long relationship with Diana Kruger but was hesitant to settle down.
“I’m old enough to be able to do this. Partially it’s about finding somebody in the right moment of life,” he told the publication at the time, admitting that their relationship probably would not have been anything serious if they had met five years earlier.
“In the beginning, we did this dance with each other like, ‘Oh, this is casual.’ Except that, we’d spend every moment together and find reasons to be in other cities together at the same time,” Joshua said of the beginning of their relationship. He went on to tell the publication that it was “The Acolyte” actress who actually proposed to him during a New Year’s Eve celebration in Nicaragua in January 2019.
Reflecting on his relationship, Joshua said, “And now, we have this beautiful baby who is literally the manifestation of that love. It is impossible for me to look into the face of my child without feeling love for my wife.”
Jodie Turner-Smith Is Taking On A New Role In The ‘Star Wars’ Series ‘The Acolyte’
Jodie Turner-Smith, meanwhile, is about to travel to a galaxy far, far away for a role in the upcoming Disney+ “Star Wars” series “The Acolyte” after having previously starred with “Star Wars” alum Adam Driver in 2022’s “White Noise.”
During a March 2023 interview with Collider, Jodie admitted that the project was unlike anything else that she has done before in her career and dropped some hints about what fans could expect from her character.
“Obviously, the subject matter is different. It’s different when everything that you’re doing is light-hearted, and that’s not what I was doing for Star Wars,” she explained. “But I was working with my favorite director that I’ve worked with so far, Kogonada, and under the leadership of Leslye Headland. It is incredible to see. I can’t wait to see how this show turns out.”
Although she admitted that her character is “not a Jedi,” she did tease a potential new weapon for fans to look forward to. “I didn’t get to use a lightsaber… but I did… not get to use a lightsaber,” she concluded, leaving fans wondering.
"The Acolyte" is expected to hit Disney+ in 2024.
