Bruce Springsteen is making his health his topmost priority and is opening up about the painful condition responsible for canceling his tour.
Earlier this month, the iconic musician postponed all his September performances under doctors' orders following his diagnosis with peptic ulcer disease. In his latest social media announcement, the guitarist revealed he was on the road to recovery.
Despite assuring concerned fans about his well-being, it appears the 74-year-old is far from ready to rock out for the rest of the year. The health update confirmed that the entertainer's scheduled concerts for 2023 had been pushed back, with new dates to be announced next week.
Bruce Springsteen's Condition Causes Severe Buring Stomach Pain
According to health experts, peptic ulcer disease can cause extreme pain in the stomach due to issues in the small intestine. "Burning stomach pain, feeling of fullness, bloating or belching, intolerance to fatty foods, heartburn, nausea," are just a few of the symptoms.
The beloved Heartland Rock originator's Instagram page was updated with a post about his recovery on Wednesday, September 27. The image featured an announcement about the postponement of the Springsteen & E Street Band's 2023-2024 tour.
"Bruce Springsteen has continued to recover steadily from peptic ulcer disease over the past few weeks and will continue treatment through the rest of the year on doctor's advice," the statement began.
It continued, "With this in mind, and out of an abundance of caution, all remaining 2023 tour dates for Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will be postponed until 2024."
Fans who had purchased tickets did not have to despair as the rescheduled dates for the postponed shows, including September's concerts, would take place at their original venues. However, those who could not make the new dates were allowed to obtain refunds through the official ticketing companies.
"All tickets for postponed performances will remain valid for the newly announced dates," the announcement continued. Regarding Springsteen's health, the poster concluded with a message from the iconic guitarist. The 74-year-old's words read:
"Thanks to all my friends and fans for your good wishes, encouragement, and support. I'm on the mend and can't wait to see you all next year."
Concerned fans positively received the health update, expressing love in the comment section. Many assured the "Tougher Than the Rest" singer that they were happy to wait as he recovered, while others sent prayers and well wishes.
"Your health is now the most important thing, take good care of yourself and recover. We will see you when you are recovered! I love you, Bruce!" A follower sweetly penned. "We love you, Bruce! Prayers for a speedy recovery," another user echoed.
A third chimed, "No surrender, my hero," while a fourth lamented their situation, noting they had gone the extra mile to watch the Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree's performance with the E Street Band.
"That's sad. Had flight tickets from Brazil to see him in LA in the end of the year, and it will suck now. Anyway, life's like that. Hoping he gets better soon enough, and I'll figure a way out to see him live again," the individual stated.
The "Born To Run" hitmaker's health scare began earlier in September with the postponement of the month's upcoming concerts. Just hours before Springsteen and The E Street Band were scheduled for their first Philly performance, the frontman announced the sad news on his Instagram page.
In the statement, the 74-year-old revealed he was suffering from peptic ulcer disease and would not be able to uphold his end of the deal. “Over here on E Street, we’re heartbroken to have to postpone these shows,” the musician confessed.
“First, apologies to our fabulous Philly fans who we missed a few weeks ago. We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some,” the 4-time AMA winner promised, not knowing his recovery would lead to the postponement of all shows until 2024.
The Oscar Honoree Suffered A Terrible Fall During A Performance In Amsterdam
Months before the postponement of the Springsteen and The E Street Band 2023-2024 tour dates, the 20-time Grammy recipient sparked concern about his well-being. In June, the Rock n' Roll sensation suffered a terrible stage accident while performing in Amsterdam.
During the show, the "I'm Goin' Down" singer tried to climb the stairs on the stage but shocked fans by falling and rolling onto his back. The entertainer was still holding on to his guitar when he fell before the instrument was removed by one of his colleagues, who rushed to help him.
The group hoisted Springsteen back onto his feet with concerned expressions. However, the New Jersey native was unfazed by his fall as he grinned after being lifted off the floor. Like a true professional, the 74-year-old shook off the moment and addressed the crowd, saying: “Good night, everyone!” before raising his hand and starting a new song.
