Sophie Turner Claims 'Breakdown' Of Her Marriage To Joe Jonas 'Happened Very Suddenly'

Recent reports about Sophie Turner's split from Joe Jonas have revealed that the actress claims that the "breakdown" of her marriage "happened suddenly."

The two are currently at loggerheads in court over the location where their two kids should reside. Turner accused Jonas of wrongfully detaining the kids in the US, while a rep for the singer stated that the claim was a serious abuse of the legal system.

In the wake of Jonas filing for divorce from Turner, more information about the split has turned up from the court documents.

Reports have it that the actress stated in her filing that the "breakdown of her marriage" to the Jonas Brothers member "happened very suddenly."

The two were married for four years and seemed to be a happy couple outwardly. But it appears they were having more than their fair share of arguments at home.

One of such arguments occurred on August 15, which was Jonas's 34th birthday. Barely a month later, the singer filed for divorce in a Miami court on September 5, as reported by The Blast.

It appears that he did not give Turner notice of the divorce, as she claimed in her filing that she "found out through the media."

As the two prepare for what might be a protracted divorce, Turner sprung up a new lawsuit against Jonas regarding their kids, Willa, three, and a one-year-old younger daughter whose name is unknown but whose initials are D.J.

The two kids are currently with Jonas in the United States, but Turner wants them to return to England, where she claims they had agreed to move to in December 2022, per Page Six.

"The parties were both excited for the family's move to England," Turner's documents read, adding that it was the reason why they put up their home in Miami for sale.

However, the situation has changed since the divorce filing. Now, Turner claims that the "Hesitate" crooner has been wrongfully retaining the children since September 20 despite their initial agreement to be with the singer while he is on tour.

"The Father has possession of the children's passports," the documents read. "He refuses to return the passports to the Mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the Mother."

From the looks of things, the battle between Jonas and Turner will only get messier as the singer's attorney has slammed the actress' legal antics.

He described the lawsuit from Turner as a "harsh legal position" that doesn't bode well for the "amicable co-parenting setup" the two were initially deliberating upon.

The attorney also stated that Turner's claims that she only got to know about the divorce "through the media" were false. He added that the actress was very much "aware" that the split would happen, as she had "multiple conversations" with Jonas.

Regarding the claim that the kids were wrongfully detained, the lawyer said Turner's statement was an abuse of the legal system.

"This is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending," the rep continued. "When language like 'abduction' is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst."

Jonas and Turner first interacted in 2016 when the singer sent the "Game of Thrones" star a DM on Instagram.

The pair then met up for a date at a bar, where they bonded over a long conversation. "We talked for hours, and hours, and hours. And I was, like, not bored. It wasn't contrived. It wasn't small talk — it was just so easy, Turner recalled the meeting in an interview with Harper's Bazaar UK.

In January 2017, they became Instagram official, and in October of that year, the DNCE member proposed to Turner. The pair then got married twice, in June 2019 and May 2019, and welcomed their two kids in July 2020 and July 2022.

However, rumors that there was trouble in paradise began to swirl in September when Jonas was spotted without his ring while performing. They subsequently confirmed the end of their marriage via a joint statement shared on Instagram.
