Singer Britney Spears may not be giving any interviews to discuss her new memoir "The Woman In Me."
The highly anticipated memoir is scheduled to hit bookshelves on October 24. Despite reports that Oprah Winfrey and others have reached out for an interview, her team appears hesitant to proceed given her recent string of controversial Instagram posts.
Britney Spears' Team Reportedly Hits The Brakes On 'The Woman In Me' Memoir Interviews
Although the Princess of Pop has been heavily promoting her upcoming memoir, "The Woman In Me," on X, formerly known as Twitter, it looks like she is not going to be sitting down for an interview on "60 Minutes" any time soon.
On Thursday, sources told Page Six that her team feels that she is not ready to do a sit-down interview almost two years after her controversial 13-year conservatorship ended in November 2021.
Although one insider told the outlet that the "Toxic" singer's social media behavior was only one of the reasons that her team wants her to decline the interviews, another source insisted that the decision to give interviews rests “solely” with the pop star.
“She’s a free woman. She’ll decide. It’s her choice,” the insider said, adding, “She’s had offers and she doesn’t want to do anything.”
The pop star has frequently blasted the way that "the media" has portrayed her in past Instagram posts and sources say "she has no desire" to generate more headlines after having her “mental heath, sexuality, parenting and body image constantly scrutinized.”
The source said that the media coverage surrounding the pop star has "not been fair to Britney," especially in regards to her controversial conservatorship.
Britney Has Reportedly Been Offered 'Significant Financial Sums' For An Interview
Late last month, another insider told The Sun that the "Oops!...I Did It Again" singer was considering sitting down with Oprah Winfrey for an interview. Sources revealed that Britney had been offered “significant financial sums” to provide new insights on her life story aside from what will be published in her tell-all book.
Oprah had reportedly reached out to do an interview in late 2021 after the singer's controversial conservatorship ended, but the Princess of Pop reportedly turned down the offer because she was “still coming to terms with independent life and mentally processing her freedom.” However, an insider went on to say that she is “in a different place” now and is weighing her options.
"The [interview] proposal remains complicated for Britney who continues to face challenges speaking to strangers at length about intimate aspects of her life,” the insider divulged. “The trauma didn’t go away overnight just because the conservatorship ended. Some days can be extremely testing and conversations can trigger her to behave unusually or even erratically.”
“Certainly, putting a TV lens on her could be problematic and it means that a proper news-style interview is out of the question,” they continued. “However, a more feature-style interview, allowing her and the team to have control is an option. A move like that, to work with a production company or someone like Oprah, would be her strongest play, but the reality is managing Britney’s mental well-being and health in the process.”
What Will Britney Discuss In Her Upcoming Memoir?
"The Woman In Me" is expected to touch on the singer's controversial conservatorship, milestones in her pop culture career, and her high-profile relationships. However, her divorce from actor Sam Asghari will not be featured, as the "Special Ops: Lioness" actor filed for divorce on August 16, after the book was already deemed fit to print.
One insider told the outlet that only Sam and ghostwriter Sam Lansky know what Britney wrote about in “The Woman In Me” ahead of its release next month. A family friend told the outlet that they expect Britney will “ruffle feathers” with what she wrote about her family.
“Britney doesn’t want to sugarcoat her tough family dynamics. For almost two decades Britney feels that her parents have run the narrative about her life, and now it’s her turn to put her version out to the world,” they warned. “Britney made it clear to her mother that she wants to have her version of her life put out publicly after so long seeing others talking about her. However just where it leaves the mother and daughter relationship after the book release is still to be determined.”
Britney Spears’ memoir, “The Woman In Me,” will hit bookshelves on October 24.
