Demi Lovato Says 'Healthy' Romance With Jutes Healed 'Daddy Issues,' Shares Plans To Marry Him

Demi Lovato feels more than content with her boyfriend of over a year, Jordan Lutes, a.k.a Jutes, and cannot wait to take their relationship to another level.

News of the couple's romance made rounds in August 2022, and ever since they have been seen on and off social media flaunting their affection most adorably.

Most recently, Lovato could not help but go on about her thriving love affair, crediting it for healing her "daddy issues" while hinting at her desire to get hitched with her beau.

Speaking in a new episode of SiriusXM's "The Howard Stern Show" that aired on Monday, September 11, the "Heart Attack" singer opened up about her "healthy" relationship and how it has given her a different viewpoint on her past affairs.

She initially touched on her "phase of dating older men," saying, "I think what I went through was I had a phase of dating older men and dating older guys because of my daddy issues, obviously. Now I'm at a place where I'm in an amazing relationship.

The 31-year-old continued. "My boyfriend is a year older than me, and we're growing together, and it feels so healthy." Lovato confidently added that her "daddy issues" were not part of her anymore, which she believed was possible due to having a partner not too older than her. 

She also reflected on that time in her past, saying, "I look back on the past [of dating older men] and think, 'That's gross.'" Amid the "Sorry Not Sorry" star's convo with the show's host Howard Stern, she recalled how she met Jutes, whom she was attracted to at first sight. She shared:

"We actually met in the studio, and um, so he's an artist, but he's also a songwriter, so he came in to write on one of my sessions, and I was in the studio and was like immediately attracted to him."

Gushing more about the 32-year-old songwriter, Lovato said he has the "best personality," and their relationship is filled with laughter. She also excitedly announced her intentions to marry him, adding, "He hasn't popped the question yet, no, but we've talked about it."

According to Lovato, the lovebirds who started as friends are taking their time "a little bit," because she felt was necessary.  As for the current state of her romance with the singer,  the "Sonny with a Chance" actress believes Jutes is "the one" for her, and she would not mind having kids with him.

Dishing more on their successful relationship, Lovato said, "There's this partnership there that is just so magnetic, and the way that we laugh together — it's just nonstop. So I think if you can find someone that makes you feel safe, that you're so attracted to, that you laugh with constantly, that's the formula of a really great relationship."

As fans know, the sweethearts' "great" romance all began with a solid "friendship foundation," which Lovato divulged in a recent episode of "The LadyGang" podcast.

She first narrated her initial encounter with Jutes in the studio when she was so nervous around him due to her attraction, but he was only "so focused" on the music. They eventually became friends for a "couple of months" before admitting their feelings. The friendship phase meant a lot to the "Confident" musician who believed it was essential before dating.

She opined, "I think when you're able to build that friendship with someone, the trust is there that, like, you don't really always get when you first start dating somebody."

Late last month, Lovato had the perfect 31st birthday celebration, all thanks to her boyfriend, who honored her with the best tribute on Instagram. He began with highlights of memorable moments with the celebrant, including views of them in the highest spirits and some swooning PDA.

The Canadian superstar then took to the caption with well wishes, calling Lovato "the most beautiful and talented person" whom he felt blessed to be with.

He also promised to spend forever protecting her and doing everything possible to keep her laughing. In conclusion, Jutes expressed pride in having her as his partner and added, "Hope u have the best bday ever ?? i love u, @ddlovato."
