Amy Davidson Posts Touching Tribute To Late Husband

Pete Davidson's mother recently shared an emotional tribute to her late husband, Scott Davidson. Scott was a firefighter who died on September 11, 2001, during the World Trade Center terrorist attacks in New York. Amy was amongst thousands of families who paid tribute to their lost loved ones on the anniversary of the attack.

On Monday, September 11, Amy posted several throwback photos in tribute to Scott on Instagram. The first photo was of the couple hugging each other tightly, and subsequent photos showed Scott with his kids, Pete and sister Casey. Despite not making any mention of his father during recent outings, Pete has spoken about him and the loss severally over the years. During a March appearance on the "Real Ones with Jon Bernthal" podcast, the "Meet Cute" actor spoke about the fateful day and how he found out about his father's death.

He said, per Mirror, "My dad told me he was going to pick me up from school on 9/11. I got picked up by my mom. She didn't tell me what was going on for like three days. She kept telling me, 'Dad's at work,' 'He's coming home,' whatever. I had no idea."

Pete shared with Bernthal that his mom prevented him from going out or watching TV for several days. Then, one day, he "turned on the TV and I just saw my dad on the TV." That was how Pete found out about the attack on the World Trade Center. He added, "I was like, 'Oh, OK.' And they were like, these are all the firemen that are, like, dead."

How The Loss Affected His Family

During the podcast interview, Pete spoke about how "weird" the experience was for him and his family. He explained that they weren't actually sure about Scott's death "for, like, three weeks" because search and rescue was still ongoing into the World Trade rubble.

He said, "They were finding people, you know? They were pulling people out of sh*t, and there was just some sort of hope Like, it was just up and down and nobody knew how to deal with it."

The "King of Staten Island" star then reflected on how much the loss made him appreciate his mom. He stated, "That's why, as I get older, I'm like, 'Man, my mom was awesome." Pete also shared that losing Scott left him with abandonment issues, which he still struggles with.

He said, "You know, Dad says he's coming to pick you up and he doesn't. For life, I'm like, I don't believe anyone, and I'm trying to learn how to believe people — and Hollywood isn't exactly the greatest place to learn that skill."

Pete has been open about his abandonment issues and struggles with borderline personality disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. According to a Page Six report earlier this year, the former "Saturday Night Live" star checked himself into rehab for treatment.

A source close to Pete spoke to the publication about his rehab stay. They said, "Pete regularly goes to rehab for 'tune ups' and to take a mental break, so that's what's happening."

Another source said, "Anyone who knows Pete knows that he will always step up and get help when he knows he needs it. He has a lot of people in his corner who love him and support him, and are proud of him."

The actor poked fun at his rehab stay during the recent Atlantic City stop on his "Jon, John & Pete" tour with John Mulaney and Jon Stewart. During the show, he joked about having a "post-rehab" glow for audiences.
