Jeremy Renner's 'Mayor Of Kingstown' Receives Season 3 Pickup From Paramount+

Jeremy Renner's streaming series, "Mayor of Kingstown," is returning for a third season. The show recently aired its second season earlier this year, and Paramount+ confirmed that the series has been picked up for a third season this week.

The show stars Renner Mike McClusky, who takes over as the "Mayor" of a prison town after his older brother, Mitch, passes away. Kingstown is a rough place, and the McLusky family has been acting as the mediators of the town for decades between the street gangs, cops, and prisoners.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount+ had reportedly already decided to renew the show for a third season some months ago, but the streamer delayed making the news official since Renner was still recovering from injuries suffered earlier this year in a snowplow accident on New Year's Day.

Renner has been active on social media as of late, sharing progress on his recovery from his accident. In August, it looked like he was hitting the weights hard at the gym, writing, "Calibrating new knees and ankles …. Strengthen muscle and tendons around titanium and pray for good times in the later rounds of life! Happy #humpday"

The series is created by Oscar-nominated writer Taylor Sheridan ("Yellowstone") and Hugh Dillon, who also portrays Detective Ian Ferguson. According to Paramount+, the show has been one of the best-performing dramas for the streamer, third to only two other hit shows also created by Sheridan, "Yellowstone" prequel "1923" and "Tulsa King."

Sheridan has quietly grown quite the slate of shows on Paramount+ between "Mayor of Kingstown," "1923," "Tulsa King," "1883," and the recently debuted "Special Ops: Lioness." His next series, "Lawmen: Bass Reeves," debuts later in November on the streaming service. Another one of his upcoming Paramount+ shows is "Land Man."

While "Mayor of Kingstown" has been renewed, the wait for the third season might be a bit longer, not only due to Renner's ongoing physical rehabilitation, but the ongoing labor strikes with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the actors guild (SAG-AFTRA) striking against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). Production on Season 3 won't be able to begin until the strikes are resolved.

As reported by The Blast, Renner suffered serious injuries in an accident that took place on Jan. 1. He suffered severe chest trauma and orthopedic injuries. Renner appears to have been in good spirits as of late, sharing the progress of his recovery. More recently, he shared a post on his Instagram several days ago, writing about adjusting to his new surgically reported knees and ankles, saying, "If you’re struggling, just know your attitude will dictate every waking moment moving forward …. Let go of the past, and move with positive intention and you will be provided. I promise."

Renner has twice been nominated for an Academy Award for his acting work, first for "The Hurt Locker" in 2010 and later "The Town" in 2011. He's also likely best known to fans for his longtime role as Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He last portrayed the character in Marvel's "Hawkeye" miniseries which debuted in November 2021.

"Mayor of Kingstown" is executive produced by Sheridan, Dillon, Renner, Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day," "The Equalizer"), David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman, Dave Erickson, and Regina Corrado. Sheridan also directed the series pilot episode, which he also wrote along with Dillon. The first two seasons are available to stream now on Paramount+.
