Is bigger always better? Not according to many who are talking on social media about over-the-top gender reveal parties. TikTokers are chiming in on the growing trend of extravagant gender reveals after the recent plane crash that claimed the life of 32-year-old pilot Luis Angel.

"The pilot of that plane, Luis Angel, died in that crash. The craziest part is that's not the first time that's happened with a crop duster trying to participate in a gender reveal party," a TikToker who goes by TizzyEnt explained.

"In fact, it's not even the first time it happened in Mexico. Back in 2021, two died when the crop duster did the thing and then ended up crashing in the ocean. Not only did he lose his life, it could have been much worse, that was in a residential area, and it's not the fault of the people doing the gender reveal party, but let's be real for a moment. Some of y'all are doing way too much with this stuff. This goes far beyond just wanting to celebrate you're soon to be born child."

"That part you said at the end reminds me of the couple that literally ruined a water supply to dye a waterfall blue for theirs.. I hate gender reveals," another person wrote.

One viewer brought up the fact that these gender reveals are not something the kid talks about later in life.

Jenna Karvunidis is credited with creating the gender reveal party phenomenon back in 2008. If she knew then what she knows now about how far people will take her idea, she may have thought twice.

"There's an audience for this, the social media audience is hungry for these clicks, they're hungry for these spectacles," she said, according to NewsNation.

The tragedy in Mexico over the weekend is not the first time a gender reveal went wrong and someone lost a life.

In 2020, a California wildfire began during a gender reveal. The couple used pyrotechnics to announce if they are expecting a girl or boy. The El Dorado fire took the life of a firefighter, as well as destroyed five houses and 15 other buildings.

An Iowa soon-to-be grandmother was killed during a gender reveal when the family accidentally created a "pipe bomb" to make their baby's gender announcement.

Tragic stories such as these has made Karvunidis feel the trend she started is just not worth it.

"I wouldn't have had it," she said. "And actually, I had two more children after my gender reveal party, and never had another gender reveal party."
