The devastating fire that engulfed parts of Maui has claimed more lives than initially anticipated, leaving communities heartbroken and searching for answers. The death toll is now placed at 115, with nearly 400 missing or unaccounted for, as officials are now extending their search efforts beyond land, combing the ocean in the hope of finding any survivors or deceased, per ABC News.

In an update shared on the county's website, it was revealed that the fire, which is still ongoing in several parts of the island, ranges between 85-90% containment rate, as the Maui Fire Department warned that complete extinguishment in upcountry areas may "take an extended period" due to the large expanse of land razed.
