Elton John Hospitalized ‘Following A Slip’ At Home In France

Sir Elton John, 76, reportedly suffered a fall at his home in Nice, France, and was hospitalized on Sunday night as a precaution.

This weekend also had special significance for the legendary singer, as Saturday, August 26, marked the one-year anniversary of his hit collaboration, "Hold Me Closer," with pop star Britney Spears.

On Sunday night, the 76-year-old singer was taken to the orthopedic department of the Princess Grace Hospital Center in Monaco where he was reportedly treated for “minor injuries” after suffering a flip and fall at his home in Nice, France.

Fortunately, a source told the Daily Mail on Monday morning that the singer is now recovering and home and is in good health, emphasizing that the legendary musician had only been hospitalized as a precaution.

“We can confirm that following a slip yesterday at his home in the south of France, Elton visited the local hospital as a precautionary measure,” a source told the outlet. “Following check-ups, he was immediately discharged this morning and is now back at home and in good health.”

Elton John had been spending the summer in France with his husband, David Furnish, and his two sons. He recently wrapped up his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in July and has been enjoying his retirement in style. On August 22, he was photographed relaxing on his superyacht with a few famous friends in St. Tropez.

On Saturday, "Hold Me Closer" celebrated its first birthday. At the time of its release in August 2022, the "Tiny Dancer" told The Guardian that he couldn't have been more "excited" to work with the Princess of Pop and give her more "confidence" to continue her career. The song had been Britney's first song in six years and the first one that she released after her 13-year conservatorship ended in November 2021.

“I’m so excited to be able to do it with [Britney] because if it is a big hit, and I think it may be, it will give her so much more confidence than she’s got already and she will realize that people actually love her and care for her and want her to be happy,” he said at the time. “She’s been away so long – there’s a lot of fear there because she’s been betrayed so many times and she hasn’t really been in the public eye officially for so long. We’ve been holding her hand through the whole process, reassuring her that everything’s going to be alright.”

The song was also named Billboard readers’ favorite song of 2022. “An enormous thank you to @billboard, its readers and all the fans of ‘Hold Me Closer’ who voted it their favourite song of 2022!!” Elton John wrote in an Instagram post in January 2023. “And thank you @britneyspears for your talent and collaboration in making this happen and the incredible @thisiswatt [producer Watt] who shares this success! What an incredible way to kick off the year.”

Even though Elton John was excited to release a song with Britney Spears, the "Toxic" singer admitted that she had been feeling "overwhelmed" by the thought of releasing her first song in six years, despite the support that Sir Elton John provided.

“Okie dokie … my first song in 6 years ? !!!! It’s pretty d— cool that I’m singing with one of the most classic men of our time … @eltonofficial ?!!!!” Britney wrote in a deleted Twitter post at the time of the song's release. “I’m kinda overwhelmed… it’s a big deal to me !!! I’m meditating more ??‍♀️ and learning my space is valuable and precious !!!”

“I’m learning every day is a clean slate to try and be a better person and do what makes me happy … yes I choose happiness today,” she continued. “I tell myself every day to let go of the hurt bitterness and try to forgive myself and others to what may have been hurtful.”
