'Bachelorette' Couple Charity Lawson & Dontun Olubeko Talk Black Love

"The Bachelorette" ended with a beautiful proposal from Dontun Olubeko to Charity Lawson. The two are still together and are now celebrating their new relationship with the rest of the world.

Olubeko and Lawson made history in "The Bachelorette" franchise as they are the first monoracial Black couple to come out of the show.

Olubeko sat down with Bachelor Nation to talk about the historical moment, expressing that, “It means a lot. It’s a really amazing position to be in, and we are both so grateful to be in the position to have shown this love to everybody. That wasn’t the intention. We both went into this leading with love, but for it to end with Black love is truly just the cherry on top.”

He went on to say, “It’s bigger than that, even. It’s showing America and the world what Black love can look like. Hopefully we can break down some stereotypes that some people still hold to this day. We are grateful for the opportunity and grateful to be in this position. We just want to be a reminder that Black love can be healthy and beautiful.”

Charity Lawson also chimed in, agreeing with her new fiancé. "It means so much, and in my wildest dreams I couldn’t have imagined this journey going the way that it did and to find a love like this. For that to be Black love is such an inspiration."

She continued, "I am so excited and hopeful from hearing from the viewers at home. The outpouring of love and messages have shared that we are inspiring people and that is the best thing possible, truly.”

The Integrative Medicine Specialist took to social media days after the live “The Bachelorette” finale aired to share a sweet message to his fiancé, Charity Lawson.

“It’s a story only dreamt of… some days I still can’t believe it’s real myself. Yet it feels like there is a lifetime of heart and soul between us,” he began.

“Through it all we have formed an unbreakable bond which has culminated in a serendipitous story that only comes around once in a lifetime,” he continued before adding, “And to think this is just the beginning. There is so much more to be had, felt, and built.”

Olubeko concluded the heartfelt message with, “You have rekindled my passion to enter this next stage of life. And I’m excited to do it together, with you. I love you.”

Charity Lawson also took to Instagram to share a handful of beautiful photos of herself and her new fiancé Dontun Olubeko, along with a sweet message.

“Within all my senses, I knew. How grateful am I to discover a love that cannot be replicated,” she began before adding, “This was in no way an easy journey. But through it all – grace. You have shown me, in the most healthy way, how to receive and love fully again. I cannot wait to take on this life with you.”

Lawson concluded with, “Here’s to living out our very own real life fairytale!!! I love you ?❤️?.”
