Jessica Simpson Is Tired Of The Weight Criticism
Jessica Simpson is tired of battling the public scrutiny of her body. During a new interview with Access Hollywood, the actress said she's shocked that people are still focused on her weight after all these years.
She said, "I think it just doesn't need to be a conversation." Simpson shared that the public scrutiny of her weight frustrates her but has certain benefits for her.
The singer said she's been "every size," so she knows how to design clothes for every woman in her clothing brand.
"Honestly, for the Jessica Simpson collection, it's been a beautiful thing. I do understand every body and every woman and their mentality and how deserving they are of fashion and style, and it's just such a natural thing for me," Simpson added, per Daily Mail.
Jessica Simpson Teaches Her Kids To Love Their Bodies
During the interview, Simpson spoke about not letting her children feel bad about their bodies. The "Open Book" author said she's taught them to never "dress for anyone else," only themselves. Simpson has three children, whom she raises with her husband, Eric Johnson.
She spoke about teaching her kids to love how they look and never try to be "any other size."
The "I Wanna Love You Forever" singer gave an example of where her eldest daughter, Maxwell Drew, asked if she should feel insecurities about being the "tallest girl in her grade." In response, she said, "The fact you're asking me if you should be insecure means absolutely not."
Simpson also told her interviewer that she tries to be a "good role model" with how she talks about her body in front of her children. She avoids discussing diets and criticizing her body and has even "quit drinking."
"They just see me living a healthy lifestyle," she noted.
Jessica Simpson Says There's A Public 'Gold Standard'
During the conversation with Access Hollywood, Simpson reflected on her lengthy weight loss journey. This includes her 100-pound loss after giving birth to daughter Birdie Mae at 260 pounds. The actress said she's since found peace with her body amid the criticism.
Simpson blamed her Daisy Duke role in "Dukes of Hazzard" for creating the "gold standard" people now have of her body. She said photos of her character from the 2005 movie have since been repeatedly compared to her body throughout her career.
During a 2005 interview with People Magazine, Simpson spoke about hitting the gym to build her butt for the movie. She said, "I didn't have a butt, so I did a lot of squats... I can't deprive myself of things because then I obsess about it and end up eating. I watched my diet and was in the gym to walk proud. My body is definitely an accomplishment."
She's Previously Spoken About The Criticism On Her Body
One of the moments Simpson's body received heavy public scrutiny was after her performance at the 2009 Florida Chilli Cookoff. At the time, she'd just split with her ex-husband and "The Ultimatum" host, Nick Lachey, and was criticized for her curvy body.
Six months later, the topic of Simpson's weight came up again after she performed at the ATT Golf Tournament. During a 2009 interview with Glamour, she responded to the criticism. Simpson said it's not fair that "women look in the mirror and feel disgust because of what society has made them believe about beauty."
The actress said that the pressure of being the right weight and body type affects the same, "whether you're a celebrity or not."
Lachey also defended his ex-wife while talking to the Associated Press at the time. He said, "It's ridiculous that the media is making such a big deal about her weight gain."
