Progressive 'RHOC' Mom Helps Transgender Son Legally Change Their Name

One of the Orange County housewives is giving her child the space to be who they are by signing off on a brand new name.

Heather Dubrow and her husband Dr. Terry Dubrow appeared in court to support their son in his efforts to have his name changed legally meaning a new birth certificate would be issued. The process initially began in November 2022.

The reality TV couple filed a petition to change the gender of their child. According to Radar Online, they requested a “decree recognizing the minor’s gender” be male. They also asked that their name be changed from Collette Kennedy Dubrow to Ace Dubrow.

In January, a hearing was held in the OC Superior Court which resulted in no objections meaning it was granted and a new birth certificate will be issued. Heather shared the happy news online in March.

Heather wrote a sentimental post about her kid! “It’s International sons day! We love you, our youngest son, Ace ❤️ Our job as parents is to give our kids a safe and supportive environment so they can grow up as healthy, happy, confident, independent humans,” she writes.

The reality star continues. “Since Ace is a 12 year old child, with a long life ahead of him - we will let him tell his own story someday if he chooses to do so. All we can say is Ace, we love you so much and we are proud to be your parents. Your brother and sisters love and support you too ❤️.”

Heather was blasted by some people who believed she used her son for a storyline on the Real Housewives of Orange County and should have kept something like that within the family.

The Bravolebrity also shared that more children in her family belong to the LGBTQ community, and she has no problem speaking up about it even if people believe it will forever be for clout.

Her daughter Kat came out as a lesbian and a year ahead of that announcement, their oldest daughter Max came out as bisexual. She told PEOPLE, “We've got four kids, they are different genders, different sexualities, and all at interesting places in their lives, figuring out who they are and where they belong as human.”

She has been forced to defend herself in the past “I saw [people commenting that] talking about my son was [a way] to remain relevant or to create a storyline on a show. Neither of these things are true,” she insists. “They are the farthest thing from the truth.”

Drama and hate aside, Heather and Terry’s son have the official paperwork now that recognizes him as a male. This is what Heather and Terry have been fighting for and the reason why they are not hesitant to speak up.

Ace doesn’t appear to have a public social media page but chances are mom, Heather will keep people in the know about the changes her children are going through.
