Cyrus has been different things to different people. She was a huge teen icon as she started her career with "The Mickey Mouse Club" but many villainized her as soon as she broke out from the "good girl" mode and found herself and her music. Her relationship with Liam Hemsworth and the subsequent fallout from the divorce, with rumors of her cheating also further colored her black in the eyes of the media, and Cyrus explains this song in an earlier post.

Wrote the 30-year-old, "These lyrics were written almost 2 years ago at the beginning of my ESV. It was at a time I felt misunderstood."

She continued to write, "I have spent the last 18 months painting a sonic picture of my perspective to share with you. The time has arrived to release a song that I could perfect forever. Although my work is done, this song will continue to write itself every day. The fact it remains unfinished is a part of its beauty. That is my life at this moment ….. unfinished yet complete."

Here's Miley, explaining the song just a little more!

To say the song is finding a place in every fan's heart is an understatement as it leaves many emotional and feeling somewhat raw.

Wrote one, "I have truly grown into being one of her biggest fans. She is so freaking relatable. This is why she is truly loved by so many! This is a trait VERY FEW music artists possess. I love the simplicity and vulnerability of her music. It's just raw, straightforward, and beautiful!!!" Many feel it might just get her a Grammy given its so honest.

It also helps that Cyrus dedicated the song to her fans, writing, "This song is about honoring who we’ve been, loving who we are & celebrating who we will become. I feel proud when reflecting on my past and joyful when thinking about the future. I am grateful to my loyal fans who make my dreams a reality daily. I am sincerely thankful for the stability of your steadfast support. This song is for you."

Clearly, while the video may show her vulnerable at the start, singing with tears streaming down her face, towards the last verse it turns into a celebration.

It seems many fans were with her through the whole journey as well, as one commented, "I’ve watched you from when I was a child, and growing up with you is like following a distant friend. It’s so crazy to see who you are now and how much you’ve grown as a person. Making mistakes to owning it all like a true Bad A-- ❤️ much love."

Have a listen, but do keep the tissues handy!

Cyrus begins the song emotionally, singing:

"The truth is bulletproof, there's no foolin' you
I don't dress the same
Me and who you say I was yesterday
Have gone our separate ways"

The chorus is also the perfect hardback to the past as she croons:

"I know I used to be crazy
I know I used to be fun
You say I used to be wild
I say I used to be young"

While she sings the first softly, from a hurt place, by the end of the song she's joyous, unafraid, and unapologetic and fans are responding to the Phoenix-like undertones of the song.

As Kristin Chenoweth puts it, "I’m not she how you do it miss Miley but you get better and better if that’s even possible. And what heart you’re showing here. True depth that can only come from learning from sorrow."
