What sets this project apart is the unique twist on the age-old battle between good and evil, with Foxx stepping into the role of God himself while Rourke takes on the devilish character.

According to Deadline, Foxx is set to play the role of God in the upcoming comedy, which promises to be a refreshing take on the classic narrative of divine forces and temptation. The film, helmed by acclaimed director Johnny Mack, known for his ability to infuse creativity into traditional genres, will also see Rourke play the Devil.

"Not Another Church Movie" doesn't just promise other star-studded performances from Kevin Daniels, Vivica A. Fox, Tisha Campbell, Jasmine Guy, Kyla Pratt, and Lamorne Morris; it also hints at thought-provoking themes. It follows the life of Taylor Pharry, played by Daniels, who was given a holy mission from God to share his family's stories and inspire his community but didn't realize that the Devil has plans for him, too.

The film's producer, James Michael Cummings, told Deadline, "We are thrilled to have Mr. Foxx be a part of this hilarious comedy and bring his incredible talent to the role of God, working with Foxx and Johnny Mack was a true blessing. This film is a unique blend of new and established talent, and we can't wait to hear the laughs and for audiences to see the magic that happens on the big screen. This movie will not disappoint."

Valerie McCaffrey, who serves as its executive producer, said, "The name talent that has come together for this fun comedy is unprecedented. You see all the actors having fun, especially Foxx playing God."

Foxx, who was hospitalized in April for what his daughter Corinne called a "medical complication" at the time, candidly revealed his recent harrowing health experience in an Instagram video to fans, describing it as a journey to "hell and back." 

The 55-year-old entertainer shared his deeply personal story in the video, shedding light on the physical and emotional challenges he faced during his health scare.

"I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back. I went through something that I thought I would never, ever go through," Foxx shared, offering gratitude to fans.

He went on to explain that he kept the situation under wraps because he didn't want fans to see him in that condition with "tubes running out of me" and "trying to figure out if I was going to make it through."

"But I did go to hell and back. My road to recovery had some potholes as well but I'm coming back, and I'm able to work," he added.

Foxx and his girlfriend, whose identity has been kept relatively private, were seen arriving at the upscale restaurant on Wednesday evening. The couple seemed to be in high spirits as they stepped out hand in hand, flashing radiant smiles.
