Bynes appears to be recovering well amid her stay at a mental facility in California. Photos and videos obtained by TMZ showed the former actress out and about on what looked like a shopping trip.

The "She's The Man" star looked casual in a gray t-shirt, black leggings, and a plaid shirt wrapped around her waist.

Sources close to Bynes shared with TMZ that she has advanced into the center's minimal supervision group, giving her more freedom to leave the facility at specified hours to shop for herself and go on walks.

The former actress is reportedly doing well and does not need to be closely monitored or placed under surveillance.

Although Bynes has been allowed to leave the facility for personal reasons, sources shared with the news outlet that she plans to stay longer to continue her mental health treatment as an inpatient.

Bynes reportedly prefers to be in close proximity to therapists, medical staff, and other patients, as it provides her with some company and means to socialize, unlike being isolated in her apartment.

In March, Bynes was found naked on the streets of LA. She had reportedly called 9-1-1 on herself and also flagged down a cab that took her to the nearest police station.

As reported by The Blast, Bynes told the cab driver that she was coming down from a psychotic episode, and on getting to a police station, a mental health team concluded that she needed to be placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold. Bynes was luckily unhurt despite her very vulnerable state at the time.

The former child star was then placed on a psychiatric hold again in June after LAPD officers detained her following a distress call from a woman who was later confirmed to be Bynes herself.

After the arrest, she was taken to a nearby police station and given a mental health evaluation by a medical team. At the time, TMZ reported that Bynes was considered a danger to herself and others around her.

According to TMZ, Bynes' doctors had to extend her second psychiatric hold by a week minimum to ensure proper recovery. Her family told the news outlet that Bynes is fine when she's on her medication regularly but starts to spiral once she stops using her drugs.

Amanda Bynes Was In A Conservatorship

During the long period when Bynes was under her mother Lynn's conservatorship, she was reportedly mandated to take her drugs regularly and hardly had any mental health issues. However, now that she's legally free, Bynes alone is responsible for taking her medications.

Bynes was under a conservatorship for nine years, which lasted from 2013 to 2022. Her parents reportedly don’t want another conservatorship, as she’d been managing her independence well until her mental health breakdown in March.

An insider revealed to Daily Mail that the "What A Girl Wants" star had been urged by doctors to "distance herself” from her ex-fiancé, Paul Michael. They explained that her friends and family are convinced the former couple’s split significantly affected Bynes' breakdown and mental health issues. They also think Michael is “not a healthy and safe person for her to be around.”

According to the source, Bynes and Michael were very “codependent on each other, and the latter part of their relationship was toxic due, in part, to the fact that they met in rehab.”
