Britney Spears Musical Officially Ending Its Broadway Run

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the show features songs from the Spears catalog and was officially approved by Spears, who also suggested its initial themes. Spears also previously signed an underlying rights agreement with the show, and it was one of the first deals she signed after a judge terminated her conservatorship, which took place back in November 2021.

The story follows a group of fairytale princesses in search of enlightenment, as the group of friends looks to rewrite their own stories and redefine the meaning of "happily ever after.". It began its run at the Marquis Theatre on May 13 and then officially opened on June 22. It weaves together 23 of Spears' singles, including "Crazy," "Oops!...I Did It Again," "Circus," "Lucky," and Toxic."

THR notes that the show failed to ignite much enthusiasm from critics or Broadway audiences. The show had capacities in the 50 percent range over the past seven weeks. In its last week of reported ticket sales ending Aug. 13, the show reportedly grossed its lowest week to date over eight weeks with only $512,008.

Additionally, THR reports that producers James L. Nederlander and Hunter Arnold are planning a national tour and international productions for the show, which was part of the goal of the show's Broadway opening. "Once Upon A One More Time" made its world premiere in November 2021 in Washington, D.C.

Keone Madrid and Mari Madrid directed and choreographed the show. The book was written by Jon Hartmere. More Britney In The News

The news of the Spears-inspired Broadway show ending comes shortly after the news of her and her ex-spouse Sam Asghari filing for divorce earlier this month. The 29-year-old Iranian actor and the 41-year-old Queen of Pop started dating after meeting on the set of Spears' music video, "Slumber Part," in 2016.

The couple later tied the knot in June 2022 before ending their marriage just over a year later. It was the third marriage for Spears. After Asghari filed for divorce from Spears on Aug. 16, he cited "irreconcilable differences," per court documents obtained by The Blast.

As previously reported by The Blast, Ashgari will be mentioned, but only briefly, in the upcoming Spears memoir, "The Woman In Me," due out later this year. The book will touch on her relationship from her family and her conservatorship, which lasted from February 2008 to November 2021.

Her memoir "The Woman In Me" hits shelves on October 24.
