“Scott Pilgrim” is returning with a brand-new anime series coming to Netflix later this fall. Netflix finally dropped the first trailer for “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” this week, and the reaction has fans of the classic graphic novels and live-action film by Edgar Wright ready to rock out to Sex Bob-omb.

Fans Get Pumped For Revival Of ‘Scott Pilgrim’ With New Netflix Anime Trailer

The new anime series comes from original “Scott Pilgrim” comic creator Bryan Lee O’Malley who also serves as co-writer and co-creator of the series alongside BenDavid Grabinski. The new trailer looks like it’s been ripped straight from O’Malley’s original graphic novel series, bringing his unique art style and character designs to life in animation.

O’Malley’s original series of graphic novels ran from 2004 to 2010. 2010 also saw the release of a big-budget live-action film adaptation, “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,” starring Michael Cera in the lead role of Scott Pilgrim. The film also starred Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Scott’s new girlfriend Ramona Flowers, Kieran Culkin as his roommate Wallace Wells, Anna Kendrick as Scott’s little sister Stacey, Brie Larson as Scott’s ex Envy Adams, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Ellen Wong as Knives Chau, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, and Jason Schwartzman as the villainous Gideon Graves.

The story follows wayward Canadian slacker Scott Pilgrim, who is trying to compete to win a contract for his underground garage rock band, Sex Bob-Omb, in a competition while also seeking to date Ramona Flowers. However, to date Ramona, he must defeat her seven evil ex-partners. The film was well-liked by critics, but it didn’t quite draw an audience when it was first released in theaters, grossing only about $49 million worldwide against a budget of approximately $60 million.

However, since its original release, the film has garnered a significant cult following over the years, well enough that a new anime series was commissioned by Netflix. The cherry on top of this sundae is that Edgar Wright, who wrote and directed the live-action film, is also working on the anime series, and the entire original cast from the film are reprising their roles for the animated version, including Cera as Scott, Winstead as Ramona, Culkin as Wallace, Evans as Lucas, Anna Kendrick as Stacey, Larson as Envy, and Schwartzman as Gideon. The show has an impressive cast list, and everyone was game to return for their roles, some of whom have gone on to have prestigious success following the original film.
