Almost two years ago, Octavia Spencer felt compelled to issue an apology to Britney Spears and Sam Asghari. After Britney announced their engagement on social media, Octavia commented, "Make him sign a prenup."

Although the comment was made as a joke, it still upset many fans, and the actress quickly took to her own Instagram page in order to issue an apology.

She shared the photograph of Britney and Sam on her Instagram page along with her apologizing, insisting that her comment was nothing more than a lighthearted joke. “Y’all, a few days ago Sam and Britney announced their engagement and me being me I made a joke,” she wrote at the time. “My intention was to make them laugh not cause pain.”

“I’ve reached out to this lovely couple privately to apologize and now want to restore just a smidge of happiness they were robbed of. Britney’s fans have seen her through a lot of pain and she’s found happiness. We’re thrilled for her. So let’s show them love,” she concluded along with the hashtag “no negativity.”

Sam was actually one of the first to comment on the post, writing, “You are very kind to clarify but I have no hard feelings whatsoever. Jokes and misconceptions come with the territory,” along with a prayer hands, heart, and one hundred emoji. He later took to his Instagram Stories, joking, “Of course we’re getting [an] iron clad prenup to protect my jeep and shoe collection incase [sic] she dumps me one day.”

Fortunately, Britney's lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, did hire a family attorney to draft a prenup. Unfortunately, it looks like Sam plans on fighting it. On Wednesday night, a source told Page Six that the 29-year-old actor is reportedly “attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid.”

In addition to his threat to go public with Britney’s secrets, the actor is also requesting spousal support and attorney’s fees according to the divorce document first obtained by TMZ. The outlet was the first to announce that the two were calling it quits, reporting that Sam was the one to walk away from the relationship amid unconfirmed rumors that the pop star had cheated on him.

It appears that the split might have actually happened last month, as Sam wrote down July 28, 2023, as the date of separation. In the divorce filing, the actor, who is represented by lawyer Neal Hearsh, made it clear that he intends on disputing at least some of the prenup.

Sam “has yet to determine the full nature and extent of the separate property assets and obligations of each party,” according to the court documents, which go on to say, “There are various items of community and quasi-community assets and debts, the full nature and extent of which are unknown to [Sam] at this time.”

A source told Page Six that Britney has hired high-power divorce lawyer Laura Wasser to represent her, noting that her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, made sure that there was a prenup in place before the two tied the knot. One source told ET, who was the first to report the divorce, that Britney is “adamant she didn’t cheat,” adding, “The two haven’t got along for a while and it finally came to an end after a major blowup.”

“She has been denying any cheating allegations and going through a lot of emotions,” they continued. “She is hurt because the situation brings up old feelings for her. This is the last thing she needed, especially after her boys moved to Hawaii, being worried about the fires there, and so on.” Britney shares two teenage sons with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, and gave her formal consent for them to move to Hawaii on August 1.
