"Bachelor" couple Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick shocked fans when they announced they had called off their engagement.
Now, just days after the announcement, Bristowe is opening up about the decision the two made, and giving fans some more insight as to what led to the split.
Kaitlyn Bristowe On Why Her And Jason Tartick Split
Kaitlyn Bristowe recently opened up on her "Off the Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe" podcast regarding her and Tartick's split.
"It's sad... We are both so sad," she began to say. "You think you're going to spend your life with somebody..." she continued before needing to stop mid-sentence to collect herself. "Okay we are moving on, because I don't want to sit here and cry... We're grieving a loss," she finally said while on the podcast.
The former "Bachelorette" went on to admit how neither she nor Jason Tartick put their relationship first, which led them to eventually grow apart. "It's better to [give each other space]. Maybe in six months from now, we go, 'Yeah, this was the right move.' And maybe in six months, we go, 'You know what, I want to choose you.' But we haven't been choosing each other," she revealed.
"We haven't," she then said.
Bristowe then went on to give her fans some more insight on the split, saying "I do need to choose myself, and I want him to choose himself. And that's what we've been doing anyways. The right person is going to choose each other -- you're going to prioritize each other, and we just haven't been, so."
Kaitlyn Bristowe Says No One Is At Fault
Bristowe then went on to ask Bachelor Nation not to choose sides because there is "no villain" and "no one is at fault". "Root for us both to be happy and grown and learn. There are no sides!" she said.
The reality television star also explained how, although the two have split, they will continue to see one another because they share two dogs. "I'm going to see him because we're going to share the dogs, but I can't, like, be with him in the way that I'm used to," Bristowe shared. "And it's probably so confusing for people, because they're like, 'Why aren't you just together then?' Like, if people can just trust in what we're doing and where our hearts are, and be supportive [that would great]."
The couple, who has been engaged since 2021, took to Instagram to announce the split. “After sharing the news with family and close friends first and taking the time to process it properly, we are saddened with heavy hearts to share that we have decided to end our engagement,” the pair wrote on social media. “We are thankful for all of you who gave us the time and space to process this life-altering decision, as there are many emotions and changes to navigate.”
The pair continued to explain how they plan to remain friends and will continue to care for their two dogs, Ramen and Pinot, together. “Our dogs Ramen & Pinot will continue to be cared for together as brothers,” they wrote. “While their humans are no longer romantically involved, we will love and care for them together.”
“Continuing our friendship is incredibly important to both of us. We feel grateful to be ending our engagement with love and respect for each other,” they continued. “It’s heartbreaking and sad to say goodbye, but our care and admiration for one another will never die.”
Tartick and Bristowe concluded, “We are beyond thankful for the memories made together and for your support of us and the boys throughout the years. Moving forward, we will always have that level of support for each other. We don’t know what the future holds, so please try to hold space for us in your hearts.”
