The actor is facing criticism for performing with a prosthetic nose to play Leonard Bernstein in a biopic. Bernstein was a talented conductor and composer, best known for writing the music for West Side Story.

Cooper, who is directing, co-writes and stars in the film called Maestro was blasted by actor and activist Tracy-Ann Obermann on social media. “If [Cooper] needs to wear a prosthetic nose then that is, to me and many others, the equivalent of Black-Face or Yellow-Face … if Bradley Cooper can’t [play the role] through the power or acting alone then don’t cast him – get a Jewish Actor.”

Many people are taking sides on the incident giving their reasons why or why not the award-winning actor should or shouldn’t play the role or wear a prosthetic nose.

Many followers were posting side-by-side pictures of Cooper and Bernstein and expressing that they were happy with the choice, the prosthetic isn’t a huge deal for them. “This is such nonsense. He's an actor. It's called acting. "Jewface"? Seriously? Tribe members please, we have MUCH bigger problems to worry about. STOP IT.”

Another follower wrote, “I don't understand all this outrage over #BradleyCooper playing Leonard Bernstein and the supposed Jewface' controversy. People, HE IS AN ACTOR (and a damn good one too). He is meant to resemble Bernstein. That he is non-Jewish is irrelevant to his acting abilities.”

Of course, there were some people who thought that Cooper had gone too far. “Here's a thought: maybe instead of molding, shaping, coloring, and adding facial prosthetics to fit an actor into a role (think Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's), why don't we elevate new actors to play the roles naturally? FFS read the room #BradleyCooper it's 2023.”

Another follower was bothered by the look because of how unnatural it was. “Da FUO is this??!! #LeonardBernstein.” They shared a side-by-side of Cooper and Bernstein with a good image of the music composer's nose.

Plus, let’s not forget that people are still reeling from Kanye West’s late 2022 hate of Jewish people and continuing it until his platforms were blocked and taken down. Nothing is sliding these days.

Not much can be done about it now, the film is completed and set to show at TIFF. It also stars Carey Mulligan playing Bernstein’s wife.
