By Jeffrey Harris on August 16, 2023 at 5:30 PM EDT
WWE Superstar, Lacey Evans, sent fans on social media and the WWE Universe into a tailspin on Tuesday (Aug. 15) with the post on her Instagram that indicated she's about to become a free agent. Earlier in the day, Evans updated her social handles, changing her nickname to "LimitlessMacey" for her real name, Macey Estrella.
Also, on Tuesday, she went viral when she posted on her Instagram, "When the clock strikes 12, you will address me as Macey Estrella from here on out.......oh, and this jacket is up for grabs. Be on the lookout. #ComingSoon #NoMannersMacey #GottaThinkOfSomeOtherCoolHashTag #LordLookAtMe"

Lacey Evans Teases Her WWE Exit On Social Media
Her Instagram posts and recent social activity suggest that Evans is either already gone or no longer a part of WWE—the United States Marine Corps. The veteran joined WWE as part of the company's developmental brand, NXT, in 2016. She made her in-ring WWE at a non-televised NXT live event in October 2016, competing in a battle royal under her real name. In 2017, she adopted the ring name "Lacey Evans," eventually establishing herself as a heel in 2018.
She would later make her main roster debut in January 2019 at the 2019 Royal Rumble event, competing in the Women's Rumble Match. She entered at the No. 1 slot, lasting over 29 minutes before being eliminated by top WWE Superstar Charlotte Flair. After interrupting segments across WWE shows and events for months, she was drafted to the Raw roster as part of the 2019 Superstar Shake-Up following WrestleMania 35.

Shortly after her move to the Raw roster, Evans found herself quickly inserted into the main event title scene in WWE, feuding with then two-belt Women's Champion Becky Lynch. It culminated with Evans eventually headlining a WWE pay-per-view event, Extreme Rules, in July 2019 in Philadelphia. Lynch teamed up with Baron Corbin against then reigning WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins and his real-life girlfriend, then Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch, in a mixed tag team Winner Takes All Match. Lynch and Rollins were victorious, but Rollins was soon defeated by Brock Lesnar, who cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to regain the title after the match.
In early 2021, it looked like Evans was about to start feuding with Charlotte Flair over the Raw Women's Championship after she began a storyline with Charlotte's father, wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, who became Evans' onscreen manager. However, her scheduled title match that would take place at Elimination Chamber that year was canceled due to Evans' real-life pregnancy, which cut her storyline abruptly short.
In April of the following year, WWE started airing vignettes promoting Evans' in-ring return. It seemed WWE was constantly switching Evans around the rosters at that point, and they couldn't decide whether she should return as a heel (a bad guy) or a babyface ( a good guy). Eventually, Evans returned to WWE in June as a babyface character. However, she never truly regained prominence on the card during her first year on the main roster.

Her last televised match was a quick loss to Charlotte Flair in June on "Friday Night SmackDown." Her previous recorded WWE matchup was an untelevised dark match loss to Zelina Vega early last month for a "Friday Night SmackDown" show at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
WWE is still listing Evans as part of the SmackDown roster. Sometimes when a Superstar exits the company, their WWE.com profile is moved to the company's "Alumni" section. Also, WWE has not indicated or announced if Evans has parted ways with the company.
Fan Reaction To Possible Evans Exit Is Mixed
Evans' social posts have quickly gained much attention on social media, and the fans' reactions to her potentially exiting the company were mixed. Some fans were delighted by the use, while others were disappointed she was leaving and wished WWE had found a better way to use the USMC veteran on WWE programming. Here's a sampling of some of the reactions:

What's Next For The Possibly Former WWE Superstar?
Evans has been active on her Twitter account next week, responding to some fans and perhaps hinting at a future endeavor. On Monday (Aug. 14), she posted a gift ahead of today's update, with text that reads, "Roger - How many days left?" This is mere speculation, but it was perhaps indicated that her WWE contract soon ended.
She later thanked another social media fan who wrote, "Thank you @LimitlessMacey for everything! All the entertainment in WWE and for always being a badass!!" She also responded to another user who wrote, "Drop the only fans link sis **** about to blow."
Estrella seemed to positively suggest the suggestion, posting the same gif with, "How many days left??" in response to the OnlyFans suggestion.

If Evans is gone from WWE, the good news for her is that WWE is no longer the only game in town. Rival wrestling promotion, All Elite Wrestling (AEW), is up and running, with weekly TV shows on TBS and TNT. There is also Impact Wrestling, formerly TNA Wrestling, which also runs weekly on AXS TV.
It's also highly possible she is working some angle for her WWE character, but this does not appear to be going in that direction. The changes in her social accounts don't have the telltale signs of this being an angle. Plus, there has been nothing with her on TV to suggest a character change was in the works. Ultimately, the next move for the possibly former WWE Superstar remains to be seen.
