In an interview with Better Homes and Gardens magazine for their Style Maker issue, Barrymore got candid about why she no longer stars in movies despite being one of the best female actresses to have graced the big screen.

She stated that it was all down to her kids, Olive, 10, and Frankie, 9, inspiring that massive decision to go on an indefinite hiatus from acting.

The actress told the publication, "When I started having kids, I didn't want to be playing characters and pretending to be different people. Everything changed for me. I just couldn't do it."

It comes after she said on Radio Andy in 2021, per BuzzFeed, that she has no plans to be on a "set right now," adding that it could "change when her kids are older."

Rather than stay home to fold her hands and just take care of her kids, Barrymore had plans to go into interior design.

"There was a long period of time when I thought I could go into interior design, and that would make me happy," the actress told Style Maker. "I could do all my thrifting and shopping; I could make things unique, I won't ever be cookie-cutter. I thought I could even do a show around it."

However, those dreams were dropped as she was later approached to host her eponymous talk show on CBS.

She further remarked, "That's where I was headed when this woman called and was like, 'Would you ever consider doing a talk show?'"

Drew Barrymore Always Wants Her Guest To Feel Invited

The show, which features Barrymore interviewing celebrities as well as segments on lifestyle, fashion, and beauty, has often been praised for its positive and uplifting tone.

The actress credits this to her unending desire to always give her guests an environment where they "feel invited."

She said, "I didn't want this, like, bizarre interview dynamic that I've been on the other side of my whole life, where you're just expected to tell anecdotal stories."

It explains why viewers would often see Barrymore getting up close and personal with her guests and sometimes giving them hugs.

Elsewhere, she emphasized that the welcoming vibe she tries to promote in her show is also reflected in her sunny, art-filled apartment in Manhattan.

She added: "When people come in here, I want them to feel like they can put their feet up and never leave—no uptightness and no fancy sofas."

Drew Barrymore Loves Scanning For Inspiration

Becoming so successful so far is all due to a combination of things, one of which is that the actress is always "scanning for inspiration to feed her creative side."

She shared, "I will chase someone down the street and ask, 'Can I please photograph your shoe? It's the perfect coral,'" she says. "And then once I find inspiration like that, I will search until I find something to apply it to. Otherwise, I will drive myself absolutely bonkers over passion without outlet."

Hence, it is not surprising that fans will soon get to see her expand her Beautiful line with more products, such as The Drew Chair 2.0.

When it's all set and done, Barrymore says she wants to have done enough work to have made things like clothes hangers, garbage cans, and "all the things we're forced to interact with every day look and feel aesthetically inspiring."
