Leandro De Niro's Cause Of Death Revealed
The New York chief medical examiner's office has confirmed the cause of death of Leandro De Niro, actor Robert De Niro's grandson. The examiner ruled his cause of death as an accidental overdose of fentanyl, bromazolam, alprazolam, 7-amino clonazepam, ketamine, and cocaine.
Leandro was found dead last month when a friend discovered his body in a New York apartment. The friend went looking for Leandro after not hearing from him for several days.
The New York Police Department revealed to TMZ that they found a bag of cocaine, two blue pills, and seven tablets near Leandro's body. They also shared that the actor bought fake oxycodone and Xanax shortly before his death and that the oxycodone was laced with fentanyl.
The official cause of death determined by the examiner lines up with the statements by Leandro's mom, Drena De Niro. In a social media post, she wrote, "Someone sold him fentanyl-laced pills that they knew were laced yet still sold them to him."
The Police Arrested A Suspect
The NYPD also revealed to TMZ that they've arrested a suspect for selling the fake drugs to Leandro. The woman, identified as Sophia Marks, is believed to be Leandro's dealer and faces 20 years of prison time.
Marks was reportedly caught in a raid conducted by the NYPD and a federal task force after Leandro's death. Although she's been arrested and processed as a suspect, it's not yet clear what charges Marks will face in court.
Leandro De Niro's Dealer Allegedly Warned Him
The police investigation into the deal between Marks and Leandro has revealed that she warned him before selling. According to Page Six, the alleged dealer emphasized the dangers of taking fentanyl to Leandro and warned him to be cautious with ingesting it.
The NYPD recovered and investigated Leandro's phone from the apartment where his body was found. The phone revealed text messages between him and Marks where she emphasized the danger of the drugs.
One message read, "Do you really need them … I [don't] wanna kill u," and she later sent, "I just don't like serving u them cuz they not script." Marks and Leandro eventually settled on $105 for the oxycodone pills and two Xanax tablets, and she warned him again not to go "overboard with these."

Robert and his family have paid tribute to the late Leandro in the weeks since his tragic passing. The "The Irishman" actor released a statement to People magazine about his devastation at the news.
