They Bought And Renovated Their Dream Home
Scott and Deschanel remained private about their relationship until June 2020, when they revealed they'd bought a home together. The couple purchased a five-bedroom property in L.A., which they planned to transform into their "dream home" for their family.
The couple now lives there together with Deschanel's two kids, 7-year-old Elsie and 6-year-old Charlie, from ex-husband Jacob Pechenik. They spent two years renovating the property and finally unveiled it in a cover story for Scott's magazine with his brother, Drew + Jonathan Reveal Magazine.
In the cover story interview, Deschanel said, "This is a house that suits our tastes and needs, aesthetically and functionally. Jonathan is so amazing at figuring that out. He's been doing it for his clients for so long, and now he's done that for us and our family."
Jonathan Scott Discusses Importance Of Their Renovation
During a March interview with People Magazine, Scott discussed their home renovation and how important the project was to him. He said, "Nothing's more important than home. And the older I get, the more I realize how much I appreciate being home with the kids and being home with Zooey. [We] literally designed this house to solve every problem we have."
As they wrapped up their renovation, Scott said they were happy to have their family close and supportive, especially their parents. He noted, "It's nice cause we have our parents in our guest house right now as well, so having everybody so close."
The HGTV star explained that he and Deschanel wanted to build a home that would "grow with" their kids. He said they wanted a place that would be great for them to "host and entertain" their family and friends.
Scott added, "And so, for me, everything we've done is so we can hold those people we love closer."
