The third season of the Amazon Original series will also stream on Prime Video later on. The series is based on the book trilogy of the same name written by Jenny Han, who also serves as creator and co-showrunner of the series.

The show stars Lola Tung as teenager Isabel "Belly" Conklin. As she turns 16, her family reunites with Susannah Fisher (Rachel Blanchard), and her two sons Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad (Christopher Briney). Isabel has had a crush on Conrad since she was 10 years old. The multigenerational show follows the love triangle between Isabel and the two brothers, along with the evolving relationship between the mothers and their children. The show depicts Isabel's coming-of-age story through her first love, her first heartbreak, and the magic of a perfect summer.

Amazon revealed that the show was actually renewed before the start of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes against the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers (AMPTP). However, the announcement of the renewal was not made public until this week.

Additionally, the ongoing strikes mean that production will not start on Season 3 until the strike issues with the AMPTP have been formally resolved. The WGA is now entering the fourth month of its strike against the AMPTP. SAG-AFTRA called for its labor strike against the AMPTP on July 14.
