Skittles Is Coming Out With A New Flavor That Will Make You Go Hmm

Skittles has always promoted tasting the rainbow, but what about an off-shade of yellow?

The popular candy brand has also been a fan of experimenting with their flavors. Their latest limited edition flavor will undoubtedly give fans something to talk about: the company is gearing up to release a mustard flavor!

Both Skittles and French's mustard are fueling the fire on social media following the announcement of mustard-flavored Skittles on Tuesday. Mustard Skittles aren't some arbitrary flavor created by someone asleep at the wheel; the flavor will be released in support of National Mustard Day on August 5th, according to TODAY.

The official X account for Skittles could be embracing any confusion in their announcement tweet. The company tweeted, "Introducing French Mustard Skittles. Literally everyone has been asking for these, and now they're here---want some?" with an invite to visit French's official Twitter for more information on how to obtain some.

French's mustard responded "Summer just got a little sweeter" on the thread, to which Skittles chimed in "mustard just got a little chewier."

The thread's comments got a little busier; Twitter users soon weighed in and shared their thoughts on the surprising announcement.

"This is weird, but I'd try one," one user said.

Another user simply asked "why" in response to the decision. Skittles did not mince words: they responded "BECAUSE I CAN!"

Skittles put out a press release regarding the announcement on Tuesday as well. Mars marketing director, Ro Cheng, detailed, "SKITTLES is always looking to inspire moments of everyday happiness and deliver unexpected ways to experience the brand. That's why we've teamed up with French's to create the first-of-its-kind SKITTLES that combines their tangy mustard flavor with our iconic chewy texture to deliver this sweet summer treat for National Mustard Day," the press release concluded. Food outlet Delish had a slightly different outlook.

The company joked on Instagram, "Where will the madness end?! For the TikTok-viral cottage cheese & mustard we were willing to turn a blind eye—but enough is enough ? @Frenchs just announced their latest 'mouthwatering' collaboration with @Skittles and they're handing out (or shipping ?) packs for FREE..."

Like the rainbow's many colors, the internet was filled with mixed reactions to the news!

"Just entered the giveaway for mustard skittles pray for me," a Twitter user wrote.

"Ok- I'm coming around to a bowl of little smokies mixed with mustard skittles," cinematographer Paul Yee wrote.

"Mustard skittles?!?!?! Ewww," another X user weighed in.

Former White House press secretary under the Trump administration asked, "Better branding? Twitter= X [or] Mustard Flavored Skittles?" Spicer is referring to Elon Musk's decision to rebrand Twitter as "X." The change was made earlier this week.
