'Oppenheimer' Star Cillian Murphy Open To Playing Ken In A 'Barbie' Sequel

"Hey, you know, sure. Yeah, let's read the script. Let's have a conversation," Murphy replied when asked about the possibility of playing Ken in a potential Barbie sequel.

According to Cinefilos, Murphy candidly admitted that he hadn't seen the "Barbie" film yet during the interview, but he was genuinely intrigued by the idea of stepping into the shoes of Ken.

"I can't wait to see the movie. I think it's great for cinema. You know, we've got all these great movies happening this summer," Murphy said.

"Barbie" was released to rave reviews last Friday and went on to make a box office smash alongside "Oppenheimer," which saw Murphy star as Robert J. Oppenheimer, American theoretical physicist and maker of the atomic bomb.

The movie, which stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, opened to an astounding $162 million in its debut weekend. In comparison, Murphy's "Oppenheimer" raked in $82.5 million.

In a heartfelt tribute to his co-star Murphy, renowned actor Robert Downey Jr. praised his remarkable dedication to his craft while filming "Oppenheimer."

Speaking to People in a recent interview, Downey shared his admiration for Murphy, hailing the Irish actor's commitment as the biggest sacrifice he had ever witnessed from any actor.

"I have never witnessed a greater sacrifice by a lead actor in my career," Downey Jr. stated before adding that he was left "impressed" by Murphy's commitment.

"He knew it was going to be a behemoth ask when Chris called him. But I think he also had the humility that is required to survive playing a role like this," Downey added.

"We'd be like, 'Hey, we got a three-day weekend. Maybe we'll go antiquing in Santa Fe. What are you going to do?' 'Oh, I have to learn 30,000 words of Dutch. Have a nice time.' But that's the nature of the ask," he shared.

During a lighthearted interview with People, actress Emily Blunt and Matt Damon, who also stars in Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer," shared a humorous anecdote about their experiences working alongside Murphy on set. Blunt couldn't help but jokingly gush about being distracted by Murphy's captivating "ocean eyes" during their scenes together.

"It's a real problem when you're doing scene work with Cillian," said Damon, who played Gen. Leslie Groves in the movie. "Sometimes you find yourself just swimming in his eyes."

"It's like that 'Ocean Eyes' song by Billie Eilish. We just hum it all day," Blunt, who plays Oppenheimer's troubled wife, Kitty, playfully confessed.

Murphy wanted to tone down the conversation and responded by saying, "They're not even that blue!"
