Bennett and Benedetto connected for the first time in the late 1980s after one of the singer's concerts. She became Tony Bennett's third and final wife, and their relationship endured for more than two decades before they exchanged vows in a private ceremony in 2007.

In the later years, when Bennett was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Benedetto took on the role of his primary caregiver. She provided dedicated and compassionate support to him with help from their team of doctors and his eldest son, Danny.

She reflected on the impact of the disease on the life of the late singer in a 2021 interview with AARP, revealing at the time that Bennett was "not always sure where he is or what is happening around him."

"It's no fun arguing with someone who doesn't understand you," Benedetto further remarked. "But I feel badly talking about it because we are so much more fortunate than so many people with this diagnosis."
