71-year-old Gerry Turner will be the new lead on the spin-off series, “The Golden Bachelor”.
Turner will be the first-ever senior to be looking for love in the “Bachelor” franchise and fans cannot wait for the new show to air.
Ahead of its premiere, Turner sat down with the “Bachelor Happy Hour" podcast to reveal what he is looking for in a partner.
Gerry Turner Talks Dating
The 71-year-old from Indiana spoke to the podcast ahead of "The Golden Bachelor" premiere to talk about what he's looking for in a partner.
"I would want someone that is in their own way, is fit. If they're tall or short -- those kinds of things don't matter," Turner said on the “Bachelor Happy Hour" podcast. “It’s are they getting the most out of their physical attributes? Are they pushing themselves, are they refusing to give up?”
Fans are eager to see how the dates on "The Golden Bachelor" go compared to "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette". When talking about dates, Turner has some ideas in mind.
“I would want that date to include some activities, so I know we could engage together,” he said. “It’d be nice if it was an activity where I would know how well we could work together as a unit. A pickleball date or a golf date would be great. I think those things are kind of revealing of people’s character.”
“I’m kind of thinking an early date, where we could talk about priorities, we can talk about whether or not the person is interested in being married,” he added. “There’s many women my age that look at marriage and say you know, it’s kind of a complication, do we need to be married to be committed to each other? And it’s an interesting thought.”
Turner Talks About His Late Wife
The 71-year-old married his high school sweetheart in 1974 and had two daughters together. Unfortunately, in 2017, Toni passed away after falling ill. Six years after her passing, Turner says he is ready to put himself back out there.
When asked what his late wife would think of him becoming "The Golden Bachelor", the 71-year-old said he thinks she would be happy for him.
“I think she’s probably seen me fail at a number of attempted relationships and dating, and I think she would approve of this,” Turner said on the podcast. “It’s positive, it’s energetic, it’s a way of communicating and finding the connection with a number of people, but specifically one special person.”
Gerry Turner Is Ready To Fall In Love... Again
Turner is a “retired restaurateur and doting father and grandfather, Gerry [GAIR-ee] Turner lives in his dream house on a beautiful lake in Indiana,” according to ABC. “He’s often busy hosting barbecues, playing pickleball, cheering on his favorite Chicago sports teams, four-wheeling, and spending time with friends and family at restaurants and local haunts.”
The 71-year-old said he is looking forward to the new chapter in his life, telling the podcast, “I want to enjoy every moment. I want to be able to make a mental note or write in a log book at night some of the high points of the day, and remember those moments. And if I can do that, it will be pretty fun.”
The new series will air this fall on ABC. An exact date has yet to be announced.
