Actress Jamie Lynn Spears is opening up about her relationship with her older sister, Britney Spears.
The two recently made amends when the "Hold Me Closer" singer visited her sibling on the set of "Zoey 102." Fans were a bit surprised to hear that the two had reconciled, considering the two had a very public feud on social media following the release of Jamie Lynn's memoir, "Things I Should Have Said."
Although the two sisters seem to have repaired their relationship, the "Zoey 101" star still became emotional when recalling the public feud with her sister.
Jamie Lynn Spears Tears Up Discussing Sister Britney Spears: 'It Makes Me Sad'
The 32-year-old actress recently opened up about her relationship with her sister with Variety ahead of the release of “Zoey 102.” Jamie Lynn said that she has "nothing but absolute love for every single one of my family members," although she stopped short of naming her older sister directly.
She did go on to discuss her feud with the pop star, saying, "If I learned anything from last year, being so open and feeling like I had to defend myself at times, I don’t feel like there’s anything else that I need to say." Jamie Lynn added, "I just have to leave it where it is because those conversations are meant to be personal. All I can focus on now is my girls, my husband, and the work that I’m doing."
Jamie Lynn has two children and has been married to Jamie Watson since 2014. She hinted that the arguments that she has had with Britney might have negatively impacted her family. "It makes me sad," she said, tearing up as she recalled last year's public feud. Although it upsets her, she does not want her daughter to share those same emotions.
"I don’t want my daughter to feel that way. So I have to say I will absolutely not allow my children — especially my oldest daughter, who was very affected by all of it — I will not allow her to feel this way in her life," Jamie Lynn said. "My strength is out of the love for my children and wanting to make sure that I don’t give way to anything other than what I know to be authentic and true. It was hard, but at the end of the day, look where I am now."
Jamie Lynn Was Asked If She'd Ever Share The Stage With Britney Again
Jamie Lynn was asked what she says to her daughter Maddie when she comes home and says that other children at school are talking about her aunt, Britney Spears. "I say, 'You should be so proud. Look at what your family’s done and accomplished. We came from a small town, and now everybody’s fascinated by the good and, especially, the bad. But look at what an example of a strong female you have. You have something to be proud of, and you should have pride in that,'" Jamie Lynn recalled.
However, she admitted, "And kids are kids, so I’m sure there’s a lot meaner things that they’re doing to each other in high school." Later on in the interview, Jamie Lynn was asked directly if she only wanted to be in front of a camera after she saw Britney doing it. However, the “Sweet Magnolias” actress responded that she has always wanted to be an actress and be in front of the camera.
"I don’t ever remember a time where I didn’t want to do it. And I’m sure seeing someone, too. Everyone has an idol and mine just happened to be kin to me," she said. "Of course, you’re going be inspired by what you’re around, but I don’t remember ever thinking about doing anything else."
Jamie Lynn was later asked if she and Britney would ever share a stage together again. Considering that Britney has posted and deleted numerous Instagram posts stating that she never wants to tour again, it seems doubtful that such a thing would ever take place. Jamie Lynn also seemed to cast doubt on the possibility when she replied, "I don't know."
"I think right now I’m really just focused on me and what I’m doing," she added. "I’ve worked very hard to be able to be a part of shows like 'Sweet Magnolias.' And then fighting hard to bring back a character from my childhood. That is all I can think about right now because my dreams are coming true."
“Zoey 102” will become available to stream on Paramount+ on July 27.
