Emily Blunt Discusses Cillian Murphy's Extreme Diet
During a new interview with Extra, Emily Blunt, alongside Matt Damon, opened up about Cillian Murphy's extreme diet while filming "Oppenheimer." Murphy underwent a drastic diet to transform his body into that of famous scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer.
She said, "He had such a monumental undertaking. And he could only eat, like, an almond every day. He was so emaciated." Blunt and Damon, also recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight about their time making the film. They revealed that Murphy missed most of their cast dinners because of his extremely limited diet for the film.
Damon said, "We invited Cillian to dinner every night, and he never went," and Blunt added that Murphy mostly had "one almond most nights or a little slice of apple." Damon later added, "He was losing so much weight for the part that he just didn't eat dinner, ever."
"Oppenheimer" was directed by Christopher Nolan and will officially premiere on July 21st. In the film, Murphy plays Oppenheimer himself, the famous physicist that's known as the "father of the atomic bomb." Blunt plays his wife, Kitty, and Damon plays General Leslie Groves. The film also stars "Black Widow" actress Florence Pugh, who plays Jean Tatlock.
Cillian Murphy Says His Diet Is Not 'Healthy'
Murphy himself has previously talked about his weight loss regimen for his character. In May, he spoke to the New York Times and said, "I love acting with my body, and Oppenheimer had a very distinct physicality and silhouette, which I wanted to get right."
The "Peaky Blinders" star said he worked with "costume and tailoring" to make his body look like Oppenheimer's as much as possible. He stated that the famous physicist was "very slim, almost emaciated, existed on martinis and cigarettes."
However, the actor has made it clear during other interviews that his diet wasn't safe and is not recommended for others. He told The Guardian, "You become competitive with yourself a little bit, which is not healthy. I don't advise it."
Murphy also refused to reveal the specific foods he cut out of his diet to get to Oppenheimer's size or share how much weight he eventually lost. He said, "I don't want it [the headlines] to be, 'Cillian lost X weight for the part.'"
Emily Blunt Was Subject Of Plastic Surgery RumorsÂ
Blunt, just like Murphy, has also been the center of rumors about her body's recent changes. A recent report from Page Six contained claims from several fans who believe that Blunt had cosmetic surgery just before the film's press tour.
It was a topic of discussion on Twitter, with several fans sharing their opinion on whether the actress had surgery or not. One fan wrote, "Is it just me or does Emily Blunt's face look different?" Another commented, "I'm more concerned with Emily Blunt and the filler she put on her face. It looks like Madonna."
More fans speculated that the "Edge of Tomorrow" star had "too much Botox" done to her face, which caused the changes. Another compared Blunt's new appearance to that of music icon Madonna, who's well known for her facial fillers.
Emily Blunt Is Taking Time Off From Hollywood
Blunt recently revealed she was taking a break from her film career. During an appearance on iHeart's "Table For Two with Bruce Bozzi" podcast, the actress spoke about wanting to schedule more family time.
She said, "This year, I'm not working. I worked quite a bit last year and my oldest baby is 9, so we're in the last year of single digits." However, Blunt's comments were taken to imply that she was "quitting" Hollywood.
In an interview with Deadline at the "Oppenheimer" premiere, she clarified her statements saying, "Honestly, that story got so overblown. I'm just taking a little downtime, not quitting Hollywood. I was just taking some months off to be with the kids."
