Will.i.am Teases New Song Collaboration With Britney Spears

Singer Britney Spears and Will.i.am are teaming up for another collaboration!

Last August, the pop star teamed up with Sir Elton John for his "Tiny Dancer" remix called "Hold Me Closer." The single marked Britney's first song in six years, and the first one released after her 13-year conservatorship ended in November 2021.

Now that the pop star is free to shape her career on her own terms, it looks like she is carefully picking and choosing what work to take on... which makes her collaboration with Will.i.am that much more special!

On Monday night, the Black Eyed Peas frontman revealed that he and Britney had created a new song that would drop sometime on Tuesday, July 18. He shared a short video on Instagram teasing the upcoming song, which included a short sample of what the single might sound like.

The clip begins with the vocals from their previous collaboration, "Scream & Shout." Will.i.am's voice starts off with the lines, "You are now, now rocking with / Will.I.Am and…," before she adds her iconic "Britney, b*tch." This time, however, Britney adds, "Mind your business, b*tch!"

The title of the song has yet to be announced, although rumors have been swirling for days that the new track will be called "Mind Your Business" based on Britney's updated lyric.

In the caption, Will.i.am wrote, “Uh oh!!! This summer is about to be hot!!!” Britney did not make her own Instagram post to promote the collaboration, but she did share his post to her Instagram Stories. Her husband, Iranian actor Sam Asghari, dropped three “???” emojis on the post, while her BFF, Paris Hilton, wrote “#Sliving Icons” next to a heart-eye emoji and two fire emojis.

Although there was a music video for “Hold Me Closer,” neither Britney nor Elton John appeared in it. Fans are hoping that things will be different for Britney’s latest hit. “Yes!! We need an ICONIC music video like Scream & Shout. Please!!” one fan exclaimed, while other followers were already thinking up ideas for other collaborations.

“OMG!! @iamwill please get Britney and Shakira together for a musical collaboration. The world needs this,” another follower requested. “I’m about to Scream & Shout!” a third fan teased. While many followers were excited, not everyone was, with some fans insisting that the voice in the video did not sound like Britney at all.

“I don’t feel good about this… doesn’t sound like Britney,” one user wrote. “Is this Myah Marie singing for Britney Spears or another impersonator?!? Myself and MANY fans would like to know. This is NOT the OG doll, Miss Britney Jean Spears. Nice try @iamwill,” another user commented. It's worth pointing out that “Scream & Shout” came out in 2013, around ten years ago, so it makes sense that the 41-year-old pop star’s voice would have naturally changed in that time!

This is only the latest in a long string of collaborations between the pair. "Scream & Shout" proved to be a massive success for the duo, leading to several more collaborations between the pair.

Will.i.am produced several of her hit songs throughout the years, including the song "Big Fat Bass" and most of her album "Britney Jean." The album produced her highly popular single "Work B*tch."

Last September, the rapper teased that the two were working together again in an interview on "Good Morning Britain."

"Yeah, there’s been things in the works,” he said at the time, adding, “I can’t reveal. I live a very private life.”

In June, a source told Page Six that Britney was being choosy about what projects she chose to accept after a since-deleted Instagram post alleging that she "quit the business."

“She has talked about recording again and has gotten plenty of offers, some of which she’s turned down, but it’s all about timing and picking the right projects,” the source said.

They went on to say, “The beauty of Britney being free again is that she gets to call the shots for the first time in a very long time, and she’ll do it at her own pace.”
