The upcoming memoir was announced on Tuesday, July 11, and will be released through Gallery Books, an imprint of the publishing giant Simon & Schuster, on July 24. Although fans are excited to get a chance to read Britney's upcoming memoir, it's unclear if they will get a chance to listen to it. Sources told TMZ on Friday that the singer is "undecided" as to whether or not she will record her memoir. However, it's not clear what reservations Britney has about making the recording herself.

One insider speculated that Britney's book, which is 288 pages in total, may just feel too overwhelming for the pop star to do. With an October 24 timeline looming, the "Toxic" singer might just be feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of recording an audiobook for her fans.

Other sources told the outlet that Britney's team is trying to come up with a list of names for possible candidates to record the audiobook if she decides that she doesn't want to do it herself. As of right now, her manager Cade Huson is currently on vacation with Britney in Mexico as they tried to reach a decision.

Last week, the two were spending time in Las Vegas to celebrate the upcoming announcement of her memoir when she was smacked by a security guard representing NBA star Victor Wembanyama. It is possible that the incident might factor into her decision as to whether or not she wants to record her audiobook.

So far, critics who have seen the book are in love with it. In April 2023, Page Six spoke to several sources who were lucky enough to get a first copy of the memoir.  One source called the manuscript “inspiring” and expected Britney’s memoir to be a “groundbreaking instant best-seller.”

“Britney’s book is a story of triumph. It will cover her most vulnerable moments, her childhood – being a little girl with big dreams – her break-up with Justin Timberlake, the moment she shaved her head, and her battle with her family over her conservatorship,” one insider divulged. “It is also a story of survival, finding her way out of the crippling conservatorship to finding happiness with her husband Sam Ashgari.”

The book was written by Britney along with ghostwriter Sam Lansky, who has previously written for Time, New York Magazine, and more. Lansky has also profiled Hollywood stars like Madonna and Adele.

One insider called the book “a gift,” explaining, “There are parts of this book that every person—particularly every woman—can relate to and feel less alone. She transforms joy and pain into something transcendent: art.”

“This is an inspiring read, not only because it shows the strength of Britney’s spirit, but because her story is told with such style, wit, intelligence, honesty, and without any self-pity,” they continued. “She is entirely winning in these pages.” They went on to say that the book will “shake the world,” adding, “I believe that it will also be a groundbreaking instant bestseller.”

"The Woman In Me" hits bookshelves on October 24, 2023.
